Abstract

Ashpits.-Ashes are removed from the air cells or chambers beneath travelling and other grates by providing the lower part of the cells a, Fig. 2, with one or more troughs b which are flushed with water to discharge the ashes into ducts c the lower ends of which are sealed in a discharge pipe d. The water may be supplied to the troughs at predetermined intervals from a tank provided with an automatically operated valve controlling the discharge water. The pipes supplying water to the troughs may have sealing devices.
