Abstract

396,201. Coal-cutting machines. MAVOR & COULSON, Ltd. and MAVOR, J. B., 47, Broad Street, Mile End, Glasgow. June 1, 1932, No. 15537. [Class 68 (i).] A coal-cutting machine is mounted on endless tracks, the steering of which is effected by means of a single set of differential gearing through which power is transmitted to the track driving-wheels. As shown, the machine 1 is tiltable about the rear axles 17 of a tractor 3. Bevel gears 7 mesh with a common driving bevel gear 5 on a shaft depending from the machine and through clutches 13, 36, gears 14, 15 and a differential 16 drive the tractor reversibly. The clutch 36 may alternatively drive bevel gears 34, pinions 33, bevel gears 35 and worm gearings 30 to operate screw jacks 29 for tilting the machine. By opposite movements of a lever 23, one or other of two brake bands 21 may be applied to drums 19 on the rear tractor axles 17 for steering ; the brakes may have independent controls. The cutter head may be adjustable for horizontal or vertical cutting and the jib 2 may be slewed by gearing driven by the motor of the machine.
