Abstract

389,175. Sliding hinges ; doors ; windows. DAVIES, W. H., 5, St. John's Road, Clydach, and DAVIES, R. R., 14, Belle-Vue Street, both in Swansea. Nov. 6, 1931, No. 30744. [Class 65 (ii).] A door or window is mounted on hinges which have spaces between the knuckles, as shown in Fig. 1, to allow vertical movement of the hinged member, for example to close it down on to the floor or sill. The weight of the door is supported by a spring E, Fig. 5, connected to the door and frame and lying across the hingeing axis so as to exert a lateral pressure on the hinges and thus produce friction which resists the sliding movement so that the door will remain in any vertical position. The door may be made to remain open by moving it down into contact with the floor.
