Abstract

A horizontally sliding door is directed to abut against its frame 21 in the closed position and to swing away from the frame and surrounding surfaces upon initial opening movement of the door by a guide boss 15 attached to the leaf 10 for slidably engaging a guide piece 20 for attachment to the floor beneath the leaf, defining a guide channel 19 and an inverted channel section 11 secured to the underside of the leaf such that the side web 11a of the section 11 remote from the frame of the door abuts the guide piece 18 so as to hold the leaf clear of the frame and surrounding surfaces during a substantial part of the opening and closing movement of the leaf. The guide piece is formed so that each side thereof is a mirror image of the other for use with left or right handed doors.
