Abstract

378,004. Road vehicle suspension. FROMAGET, P. M., Montee Queyras, Toulon, France. April 29, 1931, No. 12684. [Class 108 (ii).] Comprises spring suspension in which each wheel of each pair of wheels is mounted on an arm 7 .. 10 pivoted about a transverse axis 3 .. 6 and each pair of which is connected to the ends of a transverse spring 11 or 12, these springs being fixed on a common longitudinal shaft 13 free to rotate in frame bearings 14, 15. The arms 7, 8 of the front wheels are pivoted at their centres to the frame 1, the wheel axles being at one end and the spring 11 at the other end, while the arms 9, 10 of the rear wheels are pivoted at one end to the frame and are connected at their other ends to the wheel axle and the spring 12. Any tendency of the vehicle to tilt laterally is resisted since tilting would cause the two springs to rotate in opposite directions. It is stated that if a front wheel passes over an obstacle there is a lifting tendency also at the rear of the vehicle, and that the accelerations imparted to the suspended parts are about one-fourth of what they would be with independent springs.
