Abstract

488,086. Vehicle spring-suspensions. STEYR-DAIMLER-PUCH AKT.-GES. Nov. 19, 1937, No. 31849. Convention date, July 31. [Class 108 (ii)] In a motor vehicle having swinging axles, the wheels a, a' are individually suspended at the ends of transverse springs e, e<1>, one at least of which is articulated to the vehicle frame or body about an horizontal axis, while at least another of which is rigidly connected to the frame, the object being to provide a threepoint suspension that prevents transmission of torsional stresses to the frame. In the arrangement shown, both pairs of wheels a, a<1> are guided by quadrilateral suspensions comprising links b, b<1> and the respective halves of the springs e, e<1>. The spring e is capable of swinging about a longitudinal axis i, while the spring e<1> is rigidly connected to the frame at g. Preferably the links b, b<1> are disposed below the semi-axles and the springs e, e<1> above the same, but this arrangement may be reversed. The suspensions are shown as associated with a vehicle having a central chassis c<1>, and the articulated spring may be applied either to the front or rear axle.
