Abstract

1,148,336. Vehicle suspension. FORD MOTOR CO. Ltd. 3 May, 1967, No. 20424/67. Addition to 1,050,368. Heading B7D. The driving wheels 1 of a motor vehicle are mounted in carriers 5 and are driven from a differential gear 4 mounted on the sprung part of the vehicle through drive shafts 2 incorporating sliding joints having ball or roller bearings engaging splines. Each carrier 5 is connected by a bracket 7 to a transverse beam 9 and to a locating link 10. The brackets 7 are connected by resilient members 8 to longitudinal leaf springs 6 which are connected to the vehicle at their front ends by pivot eyes 11 and at their rear ends by shackles 12. During cornering, a lateral movement of the vehicle with respect to the suspension takes place, resulting in the wheels taking up a steering angle (Fig. 4). The arms 10 may alternatively be leading arms.
