Abstract
365,939. Ships' steering gear. HASTIE & CO., Ltd., J., Kilblain Engine Works, and RIDDELL, W. G., Clevelands, both in Greenock, Renfrewshire. May 22, 1931, No. 15233. [Class 114.] Ships' steering gear is automatically controlled by hydraulic pump mechanism normally driven by an electric motor, and is adapted to be driven alternately or simultaneously by other power means arranged so that the compressed air or steam supply to the auxiliary engine is operated directly from the hunting gear of the automatic control. An electric motor k drives pump a which supplies hydrauiic ram members c .. f coupled at h<1> and h<2> to the tiller arm i of a rudder. The control for the pump a includes a hunting arm a<3> coupling the tiller with the pump. A secondary motor m, which may be an air or steam engine, has its main stop valve m<2> coupled by a lever b<2> with the common link d<1>, connecting the main pump control a<1> and the secondary pump control b<1>.
