Regulating delivery by by-passes. - In a fuel pump for internal - combustion engines of the kind in which the opening of by-pass 18 by a cylindrical valve 6 during the delivery stroke of the plunger 2 cuts off the delivery to the engine, the by-pass 18 is divided into several branches opening into the valve passage 19 at equidistant points so that the pressure of the fuel on the periphery of the valve is balanced. The time at which the by-pass is opened may be varied bv adjusting the eccentric 11 on which the actuating lever 9 of the valve is pivoted. In another form, the time of opening the by-pass is adjusted by turning the valve on its axis, and the cut-off edges of the valve controlling the bypass ports are inclined. In another form, a passage 18 opens into an annular space in the valve bore communicating by a number of ports with an axial passage in the valve which opens into another space in the valve bore provided with an inclined edge. The time of opening the by-pass is adjusted by rotating the valve relative to this edge.
