Abstract

292,150. Akt.-Ges. Brown, Boveri, et Cie. June 15,1927, [Convention date]. Motor power plant.-In a plant in which the exhaust gases from one or more two-stroke internal-combustion engines 1 perform work in a turbine 2, the pistons 4, 5 of the engine 1 are integral with the pistons 6, 7 of an air compressor which is supplied with air from an initial compressor 9 driven independently of the engine 1 and delivers the air to the engine cylinders, the pressure and temperature of the driving medium being controlled by variation of the share of the total compression performed by the initial compressor. The regular movement of the pistons 4 - - 7 may be ensured by a cam 8 on a shaft carrying a fly-wheel or driven by a separate motor. The initial compressor 9 may be a centrifugal blower driven by the turbine, by a separate motor, or by a portion of the exhaust gases from the engine 1, and the turbine 2 drives an electric generator 3. In order to return a portion of the engine charge to a scavenging or charging air container or other container at the beginning of the compression stroke, a controlled valve connected to a port in the cylinder wall may be opened for a short time. Specifications 241,918 and 286,141, [both in Class 7 (i), Combustionproduct &c. engines], are referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) states also that the shaft of the cam 8 may drive auxiliary machines, and that an inlet valve on the engine cylinder may remain open during the first part of the compression stroke. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
