Abstract
292,111. Akt.-Ges. Brown, Boveri, et Cie. June 13, 1927, [Convention date]. Actuating by gas pressure. - Apparatus for driving compressors, pumps, reciprocating electric generators, &c., and shown working as a compressor, comprises motor cylinders in conjunction with the parts to be driven arranged transversely or parallel to a shaft which controls the stroke and speed of the pistons but transmits little or no power. The shaft may be maintained in motion by a flywheel, or an additional motor. In the construction shown in Fig. 1, steam, air, or gas works in the cylinders 1, 2, and air is compressed by the pistons 4, 5 which carry rollers engaging an eccentric 7 on the shaft. In the construction shown in Fig. 3, the compressor pistons 23 are provided with conical rollers which engage a swash-plate on a shaft 25. Air which has been previously compressed in a supercharging-blower .enters at 27 and is forced through pipes 28 as scavenging and charging air into the power cylinders 21 which act as a two-stroke., constant pressure, internal-combustion engine. The exhaust gases pass to a gas turbine. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also a modification wherein two power pistons are connected on the same side to one compressor piston; one piston controls the scavenging and charging air fed from a reservoir supplied by the compressor; the other piston controls the exhaust to a turbine. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 8622/06, 24709/10, and 161,403.
