Abstract

267,149. B³chi, A. March 8, 1926, [Convention date]. Pumps.-In an engine in which the charge is delivered by a compressor 16 actuated by an exhaust-driven turbine 17, a separate air compressor 11 is provided for starting purposes. The compressor 11 may be driven by an electric motor 15, by compressed air or steam, or by the engine itself. A valve 25 allows the exhaust from the cylinders 2 - - 5 to pass directly into the atmophere by way of the opening 24, or it may close the latter when the turbine 17 and compressor 16 are to be used. Non-return valves 14, 23 prevent the contents of the manifold 9 from passing into the compressor which is at the time out of use. A cooler 22 is fitted in conjunction with the compressor 16.
