Abstract
282,834. Akt.-Ges. Brown, Boveri, et Cie. Dec. 30, 1926, [Convention date]. Driving-gear. - At the starting of a Diesel engine scavenging air is supplied by a blower driven by a compressed air turbine, the air for which has already been partially expanded by being used as starting air in one or more of the engine cylinders. As shown, the blower 2 used for normal running is connected to a motor 3 either electric or worked as an exhaust turbine, the power in either case being obtained during running from the main engine 1. A compressed air turbine 4 is connected to the blcwer shaft by a hand-actuated or free-wheel clutch; compressed air from the bottle 6 is used to start the engine and flows thence to the turbine 4, which drives the blower 2 until the engine picks up speed and can supply the motor 3.
