Abstract

263,627. Peacock, R. S. Jan. 7, 1926. Gauging-apparatus.-A device for defining the wheel truck of road vehicles comprises a member 6, 7 adapted to be disposed transversely of the vehicle body and having a pair of arms 14 adjustably mounted thereon, such arms carrying sleeves or brackets to which are secured vertical members 17 which in turn adjustably support scribers 20. The transverse member is formed of tubes or bars 6, 7 joined together by brackets 8, sleeves 9 adjustable on the members being formed integral with supporting feet 9<a>. The arms 14 are similarly provided with feet 15<a>. The sleeves, brackets, and scriber-like members may be all locked in adjusted position. The device is set up as shown with the bars 6, 7 parallel to the front axle and the scribers 20 brought into contact with definite points on the wheels 22. The whole apparatus is then drawn forward and the position of the points relatively to the wheels watched and any error from the specified track noted.
