Compound or articulated road vehicles.-The trailer of a tractor-trailer combination is supported upon one or more four wheel trucks provided with steering-wheels and with fifth wheels which permit longitudinal movement of the trucks relatively to the trailer body..In the combination shown in Fig. 3, the trailer body b is supported upon the rear end of the tractor and upon a four-wheel truck c with wheels 16 which are adjusted for steering from the tractor through connections 7, 11. The trailer body and fifth wheel 8 are adjustable relatively to the truck by means of the construction shown in Figs. 1 and 2. The fifth wheel proper is formed with depending brackets 18 between which is positioned, by springs 17, a transverse shaft 6 secured to shafts 4 which are slidable in bearings 1<a> adapted to be adjustably clamped to the side members 3 of the truck frame. The transverse shaft 6 may slide relatively to the shafts 4 which may be clamped in the bearings 1<a>. More than one four-wheeled truck may be used and two-wheeled trucks may be combined with four-wheeled trucks
