Abstract

234,929. Glasgow, A. G. March 13, 1924. Producers.-In the manufacture of water gas, steam is superheated by passage in the reverse direction through the usual regenerative chambers and is used for an " up run " by being passed into the bottom of the regenerator, the resulting gases passing off at the top of the regenerator to a holder without passage through the regenerative chambers. During the " down run," the gases obtained are led off through a carburettor and superheater. The plant comprises a generator a, a carburettor b and a superheater c, the top and bottom of the generator being connected to the top of the carburettor by valved pipes e, f. Steam to be superheated is admitted by a pipe i, while steam already superheated may be admitted by pipes g, h. The water gas is led off by a valved exit m or when carburetted in the usual manner through a pipe k which is provided with a valve o kept closed during the reverse runs.
