Stop-gear.-In a fluid governor of the type described in the parent Specification in which a tube c dips into a rotating liquid annulus b, the valve to which the pressure in the tube c is transmitted has two edges o, p, the edge o controlling the passage of motive fluid through the normal speed range, and the edge p closing the passage at excessive speeds or in the case of leakage of the governor liquid. The spring- loaded ball-valve t opens under centrifugal action at excessive speeds allowing liquid to escape from the annulus b, the spring s causing the valve p to close. In a modification, Fig. 2, an annular weight t, arranged side by side with the liquid annulus b in a gear wheel, control the valve u. The centrifugal weight may be arranged to close in addition an independent steam stop-valve.
