498,351. Fluid-pressure servomotorcontrol systems. BRITISH THOMSONHOUSTON CO., Ltd. Dec. 9, 1937, No. 34165. Convention date, Dec. 9, 1936. [Class 135] [Also in Group XXVI] The inlet valves 5 of a turbine are controlled by a speed governor 14 through a servomotor which has a follow-up mechanism. The action of the latter is modified in response to variations in pressure at some intermediate point in a turbine stage. The follow-up mechanism comprises two levers 16, 17 connected by link including a dash-pot 20 and the lever 16 is connected to a piston 23 in a cylinder 24 to which steam from a selected point in the turbine is led. The piston 23 is loaded on one side by a spring 26 and on the other side by a spring 29. The value of the spring 29 is varied by moving its point of application to the lever 30. A spring 36 forms part of the connection between the piston 23 and the lever 16. The operating characteristics may be changed by providing means for varying the point of connection between the link 34 and the lever 16. In place of the direct connection of the valves 5 to the piston 6 the piston rod may carry a rack engaging a pinion on a cam-lift valve shaft.
