Abstract

Valveless pumps; delivery pipes; priming; assisting suction. -A pump of the kind in which the delivery passage forms an extension of the cylinder bore, so that the liquid expelled forms an inertia column obviating the use of delivery valves and serving to draw in a fresh charge through the inlet port, comprises a chamber d communicating with the cylinder a and extending beyond the stroke of the piston b. The inlet port g<1> opens into the chamber d beyond the stroke of the piston and the delivery passage e is arranged at the end of the chamber d so that suction and delivery take place during both strokes of the piston. The suction pipe may be bent as shown so that during the delivery stroke the liquid produces an injector effect in the suction pipe. A priming cock j is provided at the top of the chamber d and a regulating screw e<1> may be arranged in the delivery pipe. In another form, the inlet ports are arranged obliquely in the wall of the cylinder.
