Abstract

Starting and stopping, automatic.-In an hydraulic air-compressor comprising two chambers to which water is supplied through two injectors alternately, entraining air, the supply of water to the injectors is controlled bv a valve operated by means of plungers in cylinders to which the compressed air is admitted by valves operated by floats in the chambers. When the apparatus is in the position shown, water under pressure is passing through a pipe E, valve D, and injector J2 to the chamber II, entraining air through the injector and forcing it through a non-return valve n2, and pipe r to a holder K. At the same time a valve D<1> is in such a position as to open the chamber I to a drain-pipe F. When the chamber II is full, a valve d2 is opened by a float s., and lever b2 and admits compressed air to a cylinder f<2> containing a plunger g2, which operates the valve D, so as to cut off the water supply from the injector J2 and admits it to an injector J, which leads to the chamber I. At the same time the chamber I is cut off from the drain-pipe F and the chamber II opened to it. The air in the cylinder f<2> escapes to the chamber II through a non-return valve. Non-return valves v1, v2 prevent water from escaping through the injectors,
