Abstract

165,364. Fairfax, H. W. Gabbett-. Sept. 23, 1920. Machine guns; ordnance design.- Relates to automatic or semi-automatic guns which are actuated by a cap sliding on the muzzle and driven forwards by the powder gases. According to the invention, a recoil-reducing unit comprising a tube having side vents and carrying a striker plate is attached to the forward end of the sliding cap. In the construction shown, two recoil-reducing units are mounted on the sliding cap K, each comprising a tube D, A, vents J, H, and striker plate F, B. The cap K actuates the breech mechanism in the manner described in Specifications 128,515 and 138,136. The Provisional Specification also states that a. recoil-reducing unit of the kind described in Specification 161,082 may be employed.
