Abstract
1442335 Loading ramps on ships MACGREGOR INTERNATIONAL SA 23 July 1973 [24 July 1972 4 June 1973] 34977/73 Heading B8E [Also in Division B7] A ships loading ramp constructed substantially as described in Specification 1,441,464 is mounted on the ship so as to be swingable in the horizontal plane to be inclined relative to the longitudinal axis of the ship. In the embodiment of Figs. 3, 6 the ramp 3 can be inclined up to 40 degrees to port or starboard of the centre line 15 of the ship 1 its innermost section 3a being pivotally connected at 5 to a trolley 8 running by carrying wheels 13 on a track 14 and guided therein by wheels 16. To effect turning the ramp is lowered to just above the horizontal and then the handling ropes 21 taken over pulleys 23 at the top of king posts 24 are in one case payed out while the other is taken in thus producing a torque on the trolley 8 to cause it to move along the track 14. In the embodiment of Fig. 8 the king posts 24 are mounted on a turntable 34 on which the ramp 3 is pivoted at 5 and the whole turntable is turned, as alternatively may the trolley 8, Fig. 7, by a motor speed reducer set 31 engaging a fixed rack 33 through a gear 32. In the embodiments of Figs 10, 12 the ramp 104 is mounted on swivel pivots 105, 106 which may be locked at the inner end of the respective runway 112, 112<SP>1</SP> or may be freed to run on the runway as the other pivot remains locked and allows the ramp to swing about it. In Fig. 10 swinging is effected by a double acting hydraulic ram 126 while in Fig. 12 rams 130, 131 act on crank arms 135, 136 to turn the ramp.
