Abstract

1,172,809. Vehicle wheel hub cover. C. G. SMITH and C. SHEPHERD. 17 Dec., 1968, No. 30250/68. Heading B7C. Wheel disc cover 10 is locked to wheel 14 by turning key 36, unique to the operating mechanism of the lock 29 to rotate disc 27 so that lugs 28 coincident with slots 21 in disc 12 fixed to the wheel, pass behind the disc 12. Lock barrel 30 has a square-sectioned part engaging a complementary hole 34, and cover 10 has pegs 37 engaging holes 20 in the wheel disc. With the cover in the locked position the key may be withdrawn. In a modification disc 12 is fixed to the cover with inwardly projecting lugs instead of slots to co-operate with slots in the outer periphery of a disc fixed to the wheel. In a further modification the discs are replaced by detents movable by a key-operable lock to engage slots in the wheel or a ring attached thereto.
