Abstract

1327556 Permutation locks WALTER KIDDE & CO INC 5 April 1972 [13 Sept 1971] 15640/72 Heading E2A In a combination padlock, the sliding shackle B, when in its open position, may be turned clear of the lock body and pressed hard inwardly to unkey the locking sleeves D from their respective dials C so that the combination may be changed. Normally, the sleeves are held in axial abutment between a washer 62 and lugs 64 on the shackle stem, so that they move axially as a body with the shackle. The dials and discs are keyed together as shown in Fig. 10, so that they may be mutually displaced in accordance with the dial indicia. However, each sleeve is short of one tooth to provide a by-pass 82 which can, in the correct combination, pass abutments 84a, 84b and 84c on the casing. Hence the lock may pass from the locked condition Fig. 3 to the unlocked state Fig. 4. Now, the shackle may be turned, Fig. 7, and pressed right in so that teeth 78 clear the grooves 66 of the dials so that a new combination can be selected
