Abstract

142,174. Leun, C. van der. Jan. 27, 1919. Guarding against unauthorized use.-The steering-tube or hub of a bicycle, the sliding shackle of a padlock, or the like, is locked by balls, rollers, &c. adapted to pass through movable permutation elements from unlocking to locking position. The ball 2. is shown in locking engagement with the steering-tube 3 of a bicycle. When the rotating permutation disks 5 are set for opening, the ball can be tilted into the chamber 4. In other arrangements, the ball in its locking position engages recesses in a collar on the wheel axle and in the hub, the movable permutation elements being either rotating disks or slides. The sliding shackle of a padlock or a bicycle lock may be similarly looked, and their permutation disks or slides may be provided with projections or recesses for engagement with setting gauges or keys.
