Abstract
1,130,700. Friction clutches. DR. ING. h.c.F. PORSCHE K.G. 6 Oct., 1967 [18 Nov., 1966], No. 45914/67. Heading F2C. [Also in Divisions F1 and H2] An electromagnetically actuated friction clutch 23 is arranged within a chamber 10 in a stationary housing 2, 6 of an I.C. engine cooling fan (see Division F1). The electromagnet 25 of the clutch is energized through a carbon brush 27 and a slip ring, by operation of manual or automatic means, e.g. a thermostat, in accordance with the temperature of the engine lubricating oil or working cylinders. Energization of the electromagnet 25 causes disc 24 to move axially on guide pins 28 into frictional engagement with the magnet carrier 26 to cause the fan impeller to be driven. The carrier 26 has peripheral blades 30 which establish an air flow S<SP>1</SP> for cooling the clutch.
