[Also in Groups XXVI and XXVII] An internal-combustion engine cooling fan 1 is driven from a shaft 7 through a friction clutch 16, 17, normally held engaged by a spring 19 and disengaged by a stationary electromagnet 20 having an armature 15 connected to the fan hub 8, the electromagnet being energized below a predetermined engine temperature by a thermally responsive device 26. The shaft 7 is driven by a pulley-wheel 11 connected to a plate 8 keyed to the shaft and carrying a clutch disc 17 and the fan hub 2 is mounted on a ball-bearing 4 carried by a sleeve 6 slidable on the shaft 7 and connected to the plate 8 by a dog 4.
