Abstract

1,195,439. Friction clutches. WILMOTBREEDEN Ltd. 15 Oct., 1968 [26 Oct., 1967], No. 48718/67. Heading F2C. A stainless steel or temperature-responsive bimetallic friction coil spring clutch 30 between an engine cooling fan shaft 22 and a fan driving pulley shaft 5, in which the fan shaft 22 is freely mounted, is coaxially located between the fan shaft 22, to which it is attached at one end via a collar 27, and a bore 26 of an engine coolant circulating impeller 9 fast on the inner end of the pulley shaft 5 in the engine coolant and is engaged when increasing temperature causes a wax-filled Bourdon tube 34, freely carried inside an end coil 32 of the spring 30 by a steel ring 35 on the collar 27 of the fan shaft 22, to expand the free end 32 of the coil spring 30 to grip the impeller bore 26 and drive the fan (not shown).
