Die Verbindung der allgemeinen Formel (III) stellt entweder 2,2-Bis(chlormethyl)-l,3-propandiol oder

Als Verbindung der allgemeinen Formel (IV) können eine große Zahl von Alkoholen, Phenolen,
prim, oder see. Aminen, Anilinen. Glycolen sowie Polyolen eingesetzt werden.
Als Beispiele für Verbindungen der allgemeinen Formel (V) seien genannt:
2-Chlor-2-oxo-5.5-bis(chlormethyl)-1,3,2-dioxaphosphorinan,
2-Chlor-2-thiono-5,5-bis(chIormethyl)-1,3,2-di-
oxaphosphorinan.
2-ChIor-2-lhiono-5,5-bis-(brommethyl)-1,3,2-dioxaphosphorinan
oder
2-Chlor-5,5-bis(brommethyl)-l,3,2-dioxaphosphorinan.

Man führt die Umsetzungen vorteilhaft in einem organischen, gegenüber den Phosphorhalogeniden
inerten Lösungsmittel durch und in Gegenwart eines säurebindenden Mittels im Temperaturbereich von
— 50°C bis 2000C, vorzugsweise im Bereich von
0—lOO'C. gegebenenfalls unter erhöhtem oder vermindertem
Druck.
Man kann die Reaktion bei verhältnismäßig niedriger Temperatur ablaufen lassen und am Schluß
so gegebenenfalls erhitzen, um die Umsetzung zu Ende zu führen.
Geeignete organische Lösungsmitte! sind z. B.Äther, wie Dioxan, 1,2-Dimethoxy- oder -Diäthoxyäthan,
l-Äthoxy-2-(2'-äthoxy)-äthyn, Tetrahydrofuran, aromatische Kohlenwasserstoffe, wie Benzol, Toluol,
Xylol, Mesitylen, halogenierte aliphatische oder aromatische
Kohlenwasserstoffe, wie Chloroform, Trichlorethylen, Chlorbenzol, ortho-Dichlorbenzol,
Brombenzol, Ketone, wie Propan-2, Butanon-2,4-Mebo
thylpentanon-2,2,6-Dimethylheptanon-4, ferner Acetonitril, Dimethylformamid und -acetamid, Dimethylsulfoxid,
Tetramethylensulfon, Phosphorsäure-tris-(dimethylamid),
usw.
Als säurebindende Mittel kommen z. B. in Betracht: Alkalimetallhydroxide und -carbonate wie Kalium-,
Natrium- oder Lithiumhydroxide oder -carbonat, Erdalkalimetallhydroxide und -carbonate, wie Calcium-,
Maenesium- oder Bariumhydroxid oder -car-
bonal, Ainmoniumliydroxid oder -carbonal, quatcrnärc
Ammoniuinhydrnxidc wie Bcnzyltrimethyl-, Tribenzy
!methyl-oder Tctra-( niedriges alky I )-ammoniumhvdroxid.
Guanidine und Biguanidine, wie Hcxaodcr HeplaOiicdrigcs alkyl)-biguanid. Telra(niedriges
alkyl)-guanidin, Trifniedriges alkyl)-aminc wie Trialhylamin, Tribulylamin oder Trimctliylamin, Pyridin.
Verwcndel man als saurebiiidende Millel tertiäre
Amine, so können diese auch als Lösungsmittel dienen.
Nach beendeter Umsetzung kann man das Reaktionsprodukt, z. B. durch Verdünnen mit einem
geeigneten Mittel, vorzugsweise mit Wasser, gegebenenfalls unter Zusatz, einer Säure, oder mil einem
Alkohol, wie Methanol, Äthanol oder Isopropanol ausfällen, absaugen und trocknen. Man kann auch
das Lösungsmittel durch Destillation, vorzugsweise unter vermindertem Druck entfernen und den Rückstand
mit Wasser auswaschen oder aus einem geeigneten Millel Umkristallisieren.
Die verfahrungsgemäü hergestellten Produkte stellen
in der Regel farblose, kristalline, wasserunlösliche
Feststoffe dar. die sich in der Regel in organischen Lösungsmitteln gut lösen. Einige der Verbindungen
sind in Tabelle I charakterisiert.
■j Die Verbindungen eignen sich als sehr wirksame
Flammschutzadditive für Kunststoffe, z. B. für Polyäthylen, Polypropylen, PVC. Polystyrol u. a.

Hi material, soweit sie bei den dabei verwendeten Temperaturen
nicht flüchtig sind.
Besonders bevorzugt sind die Verbindungen X. Xl. XIV, XV, XVI, XVII, XIX, XXIX, XXXII, XXXIII.
XXXV, XXXV!, XXXIX. XL, XL!!. XL!!!, XL!V,

Zu einer Lösung von 205,5 Teilen Phosphortrichlorid (dest.) in 428 Teilen Diäthyläther wird inner- bo
halb von 2 Stunden bei —5°C eine Mischung aus
392 Teilen Pentaerythritdibromhydrin und 237 Teilen Pyridin in 428 Teilen Diäthyläther unter heftigem
Rühren zugetropft. Die Reaktion wird unter Stickstoff durchgeführt. Im Verlaufe der Reaktion fällt ein
weißer Niederschlag aus Gesamtreaktionszeit 4 Stunden bei — 5°C. Das vom Niederschlag befreite Filtrat
wird eingeengt und anschließend einer Hochvakuumdestillation unterworfen. Dabei wird ein farbloses
öl isoliert.

Zu einer Lösung von 60 Teilen Phosphorsäure-(4-chlorphenylester)-dichIorid
und 63 Teilen 2,2-Bis-(brommethy])-l,3-propandiol in 220 Teilen Tetra-
hydrofuran werden bei Raumtemperatur 42 Teile Pyridin zugetropft. Die Reaktionsmischung wird
danach 2 Stunden bei Raumtemperatur und 20 Stunden bei 50 C gerührt. Während der Reaktion fällt
Pyridinhydrochlorid aus. Nach beendeter Reaktion wird Tetrahydrofuran im Vakuum entfernt, der Rückstand
mit Wasser versetzt, abfiltriert und mit Wasser gewaschen. Man erhält ca. 1 00 Teile der Verbindungen
(IX)(Tab. 1 !,entsprechend einer Ausbeute von ca. 94%.

und 104 Teile 2,2-Bis(brommethyl)-l,3-propandioI werden in 220 Teilen Tetrahydrofuran gelöst bzw.
suspendiert. Dann werden bei Raumtemperatur 63,5 Teile Pyridin zugelropft und die Reaktionsmischung
zunächst 5 Stunden bei Raumtemperatur und 20 Stunden bei 50 gerührt. Während der Reaktion
fällt Pyridinhydrochlorid, zusammen mit dem Reaklionsprodukl, aus. Man destilliert Tetrahydrofuran
im Rotavapor ab, versetzt den Rückstand mit so Wasser, filtriert und wäscht mit Wasser und Äthanol.
Man erhält ca. 177 Teile einer Verbindung der Formel
(XVIl) (Tab. I). entsprechend einer Ausbeute von ca. 94%.
Die Darstellung der Verbindungen VIII. XXVI
und XVIII XXIX geschieht analog den Beispielen i und 2.
Zu einer Lösung von 50 Teilen Phosphorsäuretribronianiliddichlorid
in 221 Teilen Tetrahydrofuran (abs) wird unler Stickstoff bei Raumtemperatur eine
Lösung von 29,3 Teilen Pcntaerylhritdibromhydrin, 17,7 Teilen Pyridin (abs) und 88 Teilen Tetrahydrofuran
(abs) unter Rühren innerhalb 20 Minuten zugetropft, wobei in leicht exothermer Reaktion ein
weißer Niederschlag entsteht. Gesamtreaktionszeit: 18 Stunden. Danach wird der Feststoff abfiltriert
und das Filtral von Tetrahydrofuran befreit. Der zurückbleibende Feststoff wird aus Methanol um w
kristallisiert. Snip. = 205" (Verbindung XXX der Tabelle I).
48,8 Teile 2-Chlor-5,5-bis-(brommeihyl)- 1,3,2-dioxaphosphorinan
werden unter Stickstoff in 143 Teilen Diäthylälher (abs)geiöst. Bei 10" wird innerhalb einer
Stunde eine Lösung aus 6,9 Teilen Äthanol (abs), il,9 Teilen Pyridin (abs) und 36 Teilen Diäthyläthcr
(abs) zugetropft, wobei ein weißer Niederschlag aus- (,0
fällt. Nach beendeter Zugabe werden weitere 3 Stunden bei Raumtemperatur nachgerührt. Danach werden
107 Teile Diäthyläther zugegeben, der Feststoff abliltricrt
und das Filtral vom Diäthyläther befreit. Das verbleibende farblose öl (49,1 Teile (Verbindung b5
XXXI der Tabelle I) wird entweder säulenchromalographiert (Aluminiumoxyd, neutral, Akt. Stufe 1 der
Firma Woclm) oder einer Hochvakuumdestillation in einer Molekulardestillalions-Apparatur unterworfen.
Zu einer Lösung von 62,1 Teilen Phosphorsäure-4-bromanilid
in 356 Teilen Tetrahydrofuran (abs] wird unter Stickstoff bei 20 eine Lösung aus 56,3 Teilen
Pentaerythritdibromhydrin, 34 Teilen Pyridin und 178 Teilen Tetrahydrofuran (abs) unter Rühren innerhalb20
Minuten zugetropft. Bei 30 wird dann l6Stunden weiter reagieren gelassen. Der entstandene weiße
Niederschlag wird abfiltriert und das Filtrat vom Tetrahydrofuran befreit. Das zurückbleibende, leicht
orange gefärbte Produkt (Verbindung XXXlI, Tab. I; wird mit 740 Teilen Chloroform, dann mit 79 Teilen
Methanol gewaschen.
Zu einer Lösung von 56,2 Teilen Phosphorsäure-4-chloraniliddichlofid
in 257 Teilen Tetrahydrofuran (abs) wird unter Stickstoff bei 20" eine Lösung aus
60,2 Teilen Penti -rythritdibromhydrin, 36,3 Teilen Puidin (abs) und 133 Teilen Tetrahydrofuran (abs]
unter Rühren innerhalb 20 Minuten zugetropfl. Danach 16 Stunden bei 30 weiter reagieren gelassen.
Nach Abtrennung eines weißen Niederschlages wird das Filtral am Rolavapor eingeengt, wobei ein klares
öl zurückbleibt. Es wird mit 740 Teilen Chloroform behandelt, wonach ein weißer Feststoff (Verbinduni;
XXXVIl, Tab. I) erhallen wird.
Zu 130.5 Teilen 2-Chlor-5.5-bis-(brommcthyI)-1,3,2-dioxaphorphorinan
werden unter Stickstoff 109 Teile Tetrabrombisphenol A, in 641 Teilen Tetrahydrofuran
gelöst, zugegeben. Nach Abkühlen auf 5 werden innerhalb 40 Minuten 40,4 Teile Triäthyliimin
zugetropft, wobei die Innentemperatur 15 nicht übersteigen soll. Jetzt wird 16 Stunden bei Raumtemperatur
unler Rühren weiterrcagiert. Der entstandene weiße Niederschlag wird abfiltriert und das
Filtrat vom Lösungsmittel befreit. Es verbleiben 244.7 Teile eines farblosen Öles, das in 1055 Teilen Benzol
gelöst und aus 19(K) Teilen Äthanol wieder ausgefällt wird. Die weißen Kristalle (Verbindung XLIII, Tab. I)
werden abgesaugt und mit Äther nachgewaschen.
Zu einer Lösung von 32.6 Teilen 2-Chlor-5,5-bis-(bronimclhyl)-l.3,2-dioxaphosphorinan
in 35.5 Teilen Diäthyläther (abs) wird bei Raumtemperatur unter Rühren eine Lösung aus 8,65 Teilen Pcntacrythrildichlorhydrin,
7,9 Teilen Pyridin und 35,5 Teilen Diäthylälher (abs) unler Stickstoff zugelropft. Dabei
fällt ein weißer Niederschlag aus. Die Mischung wird weitere 5 Stunden bei Raumtemperatur reagieren
gelassen. Nach Abliltriercn des weißen Niederschlages und Waschen mit Diäthyläther (abs.) wird mit Diäthyläther
(abs) auf 318 Teile Lösung aufgefüllt. Diese Lösung wird über eine Säule Chromatographien.
Die Säulenfüllung besieht aus 210 Teilen Aluminiumoxyd
neutral der Aktivitätsstufe I der Firma Woelm. Die Säule wird anschließend mit 142 Teilen Diäthylälher
nachgewaschen. Nach Entfernen des Lösungsmittels bleiben 16,4 Teile eines weißen kristallinen
Feststoffes (Verbindung XLV. Tab. 1).

Zu 32,6 Teilen 2-Chlor-5,5-bis-(brommethyl)-I,3,2-dioxaphosphorinan
wird in einer Sticksloffatmosphäre eine Lösung von 32,5 Teilen Penlaerythrittribromhvdrin
(Tris-2,2,2-(brommethyI)-äthanol) in 87 Teilen
Toluol zugegeben. Nach Abkühlen auf 0' C wird eine Lösung von 10,1 Teilen Triäthylamin in 43 Teilen
Toluol in der Geschwindigkeit zugetropft, daß die Innentemperatur nicht über 10 C ansteigt. Danach to
läßt man 16 Stunden bei Raumtemperatur weiterreagieren.
Der entstehende Niederschlag wird abliltriert. Nach Entfernung des Lösungsmittels aus dem
Filtrat bleiben 62 Teile eines gelblichen Öles, das beim Stehen erstarrt. Umkristallisieren oder Waschen
mit Hexen ergibt weiße Kristalle (Verbindung XLVI, Tab. 1).
Zu einer Lösung aus 456 Teilen Phosphorsäure-(2,4,6-tribromphenyl)-monoesterdichlorid
in 700 Teilen Trichloräthylen werden 267,3 Teile Dibromneopentylglycol (98%ig) in einer Stickstoffatmosphäre
zugesetzt. Die Mischung wird langsam erwärmt, wobei ab 50 C eine Salzsäureentwicklung einsetzt. 2r>
Nach einer Reaktionszeit von 3 Stunden bei 75 78 C ist die Reaktion beendet. Man kühlt das System auf
Raumtemperatur ab und wäscht den abtiltrierten Niederschlag mit 5(X) Teilen Trichlorälhylcn und
3(X) Teilen Methanol nach. w
Nach Trocknung erhält man 550 Teile eines weißen kristallinen Produktes der Formel (XV) mit einem
Schmelzpunkt von 195 C.
Beispiel 10 „
Die in Tabelle I aufgeführte VerbindungXIV wurde sowohl in einer Konzentration von 2% (unter Zugabe
eines gleichen Gcwichlsantcils Antimonlrioxid), als auch in einer Konzentration von 4% (ohne Zusatz
von Antimonlrioxid) zu einem Hochdruckpolyäthylen zugcmischl und die Mischung zu 1,2 mm dicken
Platten verarbeitet. Die Platten wiesen keine Verfärbung auf und waren selbstverlöschcnd nach DIN
53 438. Im Gegensatz dazu brannten entsprechende Platten mit 2. bzw. 4% Tris-(dibrompropyl)-phosphat <r>
über die gesamte Strecke.
Beispiel Il
Die Verbindung XVI wurde mit Polypropylenpulver auf einer Schüllelmaschine gut vermischt und w
bei 155 zu Fellen gewalzt, die anschließend bei 190
2,5 Minuten bei einem Druck von 2 Tonnen, dann 2,5 Minuten bei einem Druck von 30 Tonnen zu
I mm dicken Platten verpreßt wurden. Bei 4% Additivzusatz waren die Prüflinge nach DIN 53 438 nicht «
entflammbar.
Beispiel 12
Die Verbindung XXXII wurde wie in Beispiel Il beschrieben, in Polypropylen eingearbeitet und zu bo
Platten verpreßt. Bei 8% Additivzusalz waren die Prüflinge nach DlN 53 438 nicht entflammbar.
Das bekannte Flammschutzmittel Tris-(dibrompropyl)-phosphat wurde in Äther gelöst und diese
Lösung mit Polypropylenpulver vermischt. Das Lö- b5 sungsmittel wurde an einem Rotationsverdampfer
unter Vakuum abdestilliert und das so erhaltene Addilivpolypropylengcmisch wie in Beispiel I I bc-
schrieben, zu Platten verarbeitet. In 8%iger Konzentration waren die Prüflinge noch entflammbar.
Beispiel 13
Die Verbindungen XXXIl und XXXIlI sowie Tris-(dibrompropyl)-phosphat,einbekanntes
Flammschutzmittel, wurden in einem Laborkneler innerhalb 10 Minuten
bei !50" in Hochdruck-Polyäthylen eingearbeitet
und 5 Minuten bei 160" mit einem Druck von 10 Tonnen verpreßt. Die Prüfung auf Flauimfestigkeit
nach DIN 53 438 ergab für Verbindung XXXIIl Selbstverlöschung nach einer Brennstrecke
von I cm, bei Verbindung XXXII nach einer Brennstrecke von 2,5 cm und bei Tris-(dibrompropyl)-phosphat

von 7 cm.
Beispiel 14
140Teile einer Verbindung der Formel (XIX)
wurden mit 14 Teilen eines Dispergiermittels auf der Basis eines dialkylphenylpolyglykoläthercarbonsauren
Alkalimctallsalzcs und 246 Teilen Wasser versetzt und in einer Labor-Pcrlmühle unter Zusatz von
4(X) Teilen Quarzitperlen unter Eiskühlung 5 Stunden gemahlen. Die erhaltene feine Dispersion, die 35%
der Verbindung der Formel XIX enthält, wurde über eine Glasfrittc von den Quarzitperlen getrennt.
Diese Dispersion ist Bestandteil der folgenden Klotzflottc:
A) 575 g/l obiger Dispersion (35%ig) entsprechend 2(X) g/l der Verbindung der Formel XIX,
KX) g/l eines Trimcthylolmclamintrimelhyläthcr-Vorkondcnsatcs,
iOg/l Aiiiinoniumsulfat.
Mit dieser Klolzlloite wird mittels Foulardapplikation
(Flottenaufnahmc ca. 75 80%) ein PoIyestcr/Baumwoll-Mischgewebe
PET/CO 67/33, 165 g/m2) ausgerüstet.
Das so ausgerüstete Gewebe wurde 6 Minuten bei !(X) getrocknet und anschließend 5 Minuten auf
160 erhitzt. Ein Teil dieses ausgerüsteten Gewebes wurde Imal, ein weiterer Teil lOmal je 30 Minuten
bei 60 mit einem Haushaltwaschmittel (z. B. Dixan) gewaschen und 6 Minuten bei 100" getrocknet. Nach
24stiindiger Klimatisierung der Gewebe wurde ihre Entflammbarkeit nach Din 53 906 geprüft (Abmessung
der Prüflinge HX) χ 250 mm, Zünddaucr 6 Sekunden).
Die Prüflinge wurden mit Glasfaservlies hinterlegt.
Beispiel 15
2(X) g/ der Verbindung XXXIV werden in Dioxan gelöst und auf Polycslcr-Baumwoll-Mischgewcbc
(PET/CO 67/33,165 g/m2) durch Foulardapplikation (Flottenaufnahme ca. 80%) aufgetragen. Nach einer
Zwischentrocknung von 6 Minuten bei KX)" wird eine Klolzflotle von 100 g/l eines Trimethylolmclaminmethyläther-Vorkondensates
und 10 g/l Ammoniumsulfat auf gleiche Weise aufgetragen.
Nach 6 Minuten bei KX)" wird eine Kondensation während 5 Minuten bei 160" vorgenommen.
Wie in Beispiel 14 wird ein Teil der Prüflinge Imal
ein weiterer lOmal gewaschen und nach Klimatisieren auf Entflammbarkeit, wie in Beispiel 14 beschrieben,
getestet.
Beispiel 16
Die Verbindung Xl wurde in einer Konzentration von 8% in Polypropylen bei einer Temperatur von
270" eingesponnen. Der erhaltene Faden wurde nach Verstrecken und Verzwirnen zu einem Schlauch verstrickt.
Die Flammschutzprüfung wurde nach DIN 53 906 an den nicht aufgeschnittenen, doppelt liegenden
Prüflingen vorgenommen. Diese waren nicht entflammbar, wo hingegen gleichartig hergestellte
Prüflinge ohne Additivzusatz entflammbar waren und völlig abbrannten.

Ein Polyesler-Baumwoll-Mischgewebe (PET/CO
67/33, 165 g/m2) wird mit der folgenden Klotzflotte durch Foulardapplikation (Flottenaufnahme ca. 75
bis 80%) ausgerüstet und wie in Beispiel 14 beschrieben,
wcitcrbchandclt.
250 g/l eines im Handel bekannten Flammschutzmittel auf der Basis von Tclrakis-(hydroxymethyl)-phosphoniumchlorid
(80%),
25 g/l NaOH,
50 g/l Harnstoff,
70 g/l einesTrimcthylolmclaminlrimclhyläthcr-Vorkondcnsatcs.

Wie in Beispiel X beschrieben, wird dasselbe PoIycster-Baumwoll-Mischgcwcbc
nach folgender Klot/-flotienrczcptur ausgerüstet (entsprechend den Angaben
des Herstellers):
3(K) g/l eines im Handel bekannten Flammschutzmittels
auf der Basis eines N-methyl'erten Dialkylphosphonopropjonsäureamids,
!5 g/l Harnstoff,
5 g/l Ammoniumchlorid,
!5 g/l Harnstoff,
5 g/l Ammoniumchlorid,
KX) g/I einesTrimethylolmelamintrimethyläther-Vorkondensates.
Die Prüflinge wurden 6 Minuten bei KK) getrocknet ίο und anschließend gemäß den Angaben des Herstellers,
5 Minuten bei 180' kondensiert. Die Weiterbehandlung und Prüfung der Entflammbarkeit ist
der im Beispiel 14 beschriebenen analog.

Ein Polycster-Baumvoll-Mischgewebe, wie es bereits
in den vorgehenden Beispielen benutzt wurde, wird mit einer alkoholischen Lösung (200g/l) des
im Handel bekannten Flammschutzmittel Tris-(dibrompropyl)-phosphat,
wie in Beispiel 15 beschrieben, ausgerüstet. Nach der Zwischentrocknung (6 Minuten
bei KX)") wird eine Klotzflotte von KX) g/l eines Trimethylolmelamintrimethylälher-Vorkondensates
und 10 g/l Ammoniumsulfal auf gleiche Weise aufgetragen. Die Weiterbehandlung ist analog der im
Beispiel 15 beschriebenen.
Ergebnisse der Flammschulzprüfungen
Die nach Beispiel 14 und 15 ausgerüsteten Gewebeproben
ergaben bei der Prüfung ihrer Entflammbarkeit nach DIN 53 906 bessere Resultate als die nach den
mit den bekannten Verbindungen in den Beispielen X, Y und Z ausgerüsteten, wie aus Tabelle 2 hervorgeht.
