Man hat schon mehrfach versucht, die Adhäsion und Kohäsion von Schmierfetten zu verbessern. So
ist in der USA.-Patentschrift 2 917 458 angegeben, daß die Adhäsion von Schmierfetten durch Zugabe
dner Mischung von isotaktischem (kristallinem) Polypropylen mit einem Molekulargewicht von 100000
bis 1000 000 und von ataktischem (amorphem) Polypropylen mit einem Molekulargewicht von 300
bis 10 000 verbessert werden kann. In dem Gemisch soll das Verhältnis von ataktischem Polypropylen zu
isotaktischem Polypropylen wenigstens 10:1 betragen. In dieser Patentschrift ist ausdrücklich hervorgehoben,
daß die alleinige Verwendung von ataktischem Polypropylen, also ohne Anwesenheit von isotaktischem
Polypropylen, nicht zu einem Schmierfett mit guten Adhäsions- und Kohäsionseigenschaften führt.
Auch die Verwendung eines öllöslichen, amorphen Polypropylens als Schmierölzusatz ist bekannt. Die
Eigenschaften von Schmierölen können jedoch im allgemeinen nicht mit denen von Schmierfetten gleich- ao
gesetzt werden, vor allem wenn es sich um die Ab-Waschbeständigkeit
handelt. Der Zusatz von isotaktischem Polypropylen zu Fetten hat nicht zu einer Verbesserung der Fetthaftfestigkeit geführt. Es mußte
daher überraschen, daß sich ataktisches Polypropylen as
für die Zwecke der Erfindung eignet.
Das erfindungsgemäße Schmierfett, enthaltend ein Mineralöl, ein Verdickungsmittel, ein Polyolefin
sowie gegebenenfalls eine Fettsäuremetallseife, ist dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß es als Polyolefin ein
Öllösliches, ataktisches Polypropylen mit einem Molekulargewicht von 10 000 bis 50 000 oder ein Öllösliches,
ataktisches Äthylen-Propylen-Mischpolymer mit einer grundmolaren Viskosität von 0,3 bis 4,0
enthält.
Das ataktische Polypropylen hat vorzugsweise ein Molekulargewicht von 15 000 bis 35 000. Das ataktische
Äthylen-Propylen-Mischpolymer hat vorzugsweise eine grundmolare Viskosität von 0,5 bis 2,5.
Alle hier angegebenen Viskositätswerte wurden in Tetralin bei 135°C gemessen. Alle Teile und Prozentangaben
sind Gewichtsprozente und Gewichtsanteile und beziehen sich auf das Gesamtgewicht des Schmierfetts.
Überraschenderweise ist die durch Verwendung von ataktischem Polypropylen oder von einem
Äthylen-Propylen-Mischpolymer erzielte Verbesserung erheblich besser als bei Verwendung anderer Polyolefine.
Das Mineralöl kann ein paraffinisches, naphthenisches oder aromatisches Öl sein, z. B. mit einer
Viskosität von 35 bis 180 SUS bei 990C.

5 bis 40°/0 zugesetzt werden. Es sind z. B. Fettsäuremetallseifen,
anorganische Verdickungsmittel wie kolloidales Siliciumdioxyd, Bentonittone u. dgl. bevorzugt.
Auch Komplex-Metallseifen sind geeignet. Diese ergeben Schmierfette, die erheblich höhere
Tropfpunkte besitzen als bei den anderen Verdickungsmitteln.
Ataktisches Polypropylen ist zugänglich, wenn man Propylen in einem inerten Lösungsmittel wie
Pentan oder Hexan in Gegenwart eines Metallhalogenid-Metallalkyl-Komplexkatalysators
polymerisiert. Der bevorzugte Katalysator ist ein Titantrichlorid-Aluminiumtriäthyl-Komplex.
Die Reaktionstemperatur wird bei etwa 60 bis 820C und der Druck bei
etwa 7,03 bis 17,6 kg/cma gehalten. Die Menge an TiCI3 liegt gewöhnlich bei 0,05 bis 5,0 Gewichtsprozent
des Lösungsmittels, und das Molverhältnis Von Aluminium zu Titan schwankt vorzugsweise
zwischen 0,5:1 und 1,0:1. Die Menge des Lösungsmittels wird gewöhnlich so gewählt, daß die Menge
des im Lösungsmittel löslichen Polypropylens etwa 10 bis 30 Gewichtsprozent des Lösungsmittels beträgt.
Nach einer Reaktionszeit von 30 Minuten bis 2 Stunden wird die Reaktion durch Zugabe kleiner Mengen
Methanol unterbrochen. Das Polymer besteht sowohl aus isotaktischem wie ataktischem Polypropylen.
Das isotaktische Polymer ist im Lösungsmittel unlöslich und wird durch Filtrieren oder auf ähnliche
Weise abgetrennt. Das ataktische Polymer ist im Lösungsmittel löslich und wird daraus durch Abstreifen

Reinheit des ataktischen Polymers zu gewährleisten, der Erfindung zu erzielen. Die Menge des Polymers,
ist es gewöhnlich erwünscht, es erneut zu lösen, das in das Schmierfett eingearbeitet wird, sollte

Ein Schmierfett wird hergestellt durch Zugeben von 10 Teilen Aluminiumbenzoat-stearat zu 55 Teilen
öl (Eigenschaften wie bei Beispiel 1) bei 88 0C und
Rühren der Mischung für etwa 20 Minuten, bis sich die Seife im öl gelöst hat. Dann werden weitere
60 Teile öl zugegeben; erneut wird 10 bis 15 Minuten gerührt und schließlich die Mischung auf 210° C
erhitzt. Dann läßt man die Mischung auf 93° C abkühlen. Bei dieser Temperatur wird die Fettkonsistenz
erreicht.
Das Aluminiumbenzoat-stearat wurde erhalten durch Zugabe von Aluminiumsulfat zu einer wäßrigen
Lösung von Natriumbenzoat und Natriumstearat, in der das Molverhältnis dieser Salze 1:1 ist. Bei
93° C, kurz vor dem Verwalzen würden 6,6 Teile des im Beispiel 1 beschriebenen ataktischen Polypropylens
zugegeben. Der Gehalt des ataktischen Polypropylens im fertigen Schmierfett beträgt somit
5%. Das Schmierfett hat einen Wasserabwaschwert von 19,7%.
Beispiel 2 wird mit der Abweichung wiederholt, daß 6,6 Teile ataktisches Polypropylen des Beispiels 1
dem Öl gleichzeitig mit der Seife zugegeben wurden. Danach wurde kein weiteres ataktisches Polypropylen
zugefügt. Das fertige Schmierfett hat einen Wasserabwaschwert von 19 %.
Vergleichsversuch
a) Die Arbeitsweise ist die gleiche wie im Beispiel 2 mit der Abweichung, daß an Stelle von Polypropylen
6,6 Teile Polyäthylen mit einem Molekulargewicht von 20 000 zugegeben wurden. Das fertige Schmierfett
hat einen Wasserabwaschwert von 90%.
b) Werden statt Polypropylen 6,6 Teile Polyisobutylen mit einem Molekulargewicht von 10 000
zugegeben, so hat das Schmierfett einen Wasserabwaschwert von 34,1%.
Ein Schmierfett nach Beispiel 3, dem jedoch 3,9 Teile ataktisches Polypropylen zugegeben werden
(Polymergehalt 3%), hat einen Wasserabwaschwert von 40%.
Einem Schmierfett nach Beispiel 3 werden an Stelle des Polypropylens 1,26 Teile eines ataktischen Äthylen-Propylen-Blockmischpolymers
mit endständigen Äthylengruppen zugegeben. Das Mischpolymer hat eine Eigenviskosität in Tetralin bei 135° C von 1,8
und einen Äthylengehalt von 4%. Der Polymergehalt
Einem Schmierfett nach Beispiel 3 werden an Stelle von Polypropylen 1,26 Teile ataktisches Äthylen-Propylen-Mischpolymer
mit Zufallsverteilung und einem Äthylengehalt von 50% und einer grundmolaren Viskosität von 0,8 zugegeben. Der Polymergehalt
des Schmierfetts beträgt 1%, das Schmierfett hat einen Wasserabwaschwert von 11%.
Einem Schmierfett nach Beispiel 3 werden an Stelle von Polypropylen 1,26 Teile eines ataktischen Äthylen-Propylen-Mischpolymers
mit Zufallsverteilung und einem Äthylengehalt von 58% und einer grundmolaren Viskosität von 2,8 zugegeben. Der Polymergehalt
des Schmierfetts beträgt 1%. Das Schmierfett hat einen Wasserabwaschwert von 9,3%.
In der folgenden Tabelle sind die Werte der Vergleichsversuche denen einiger Beispiele gegenübergestellt.

Die Werte zeigen, daß die mit Polyäthylen und Polyisobutylen erzielten Wasserabwaschwerte um etwa
4,6- bzw. l,7fach schlechter sind als diejenigen Werte, die mit ataktischem Polypropylen erhalten worden
sind. Aber auch die letzteren Werte liegen noch um etwa das 9,6- bzw. 3,6fache höher als sie mit
ataktischen Äthylen-Propylen-Mischpolymeren erzielt worden sind. Die Werte von 9,6 bzw. 3,6 lassen noch
nicht alle Vorteile erkennen, die mit ataktischen Äthylen-Propylen-Mischpolymerisaten erzielt werden.
