Die Erfindung bezieht sich auf Verfahren zur Beschleunigung der Reaktion von Verbindungen mit einer
reaktionsfähigen Gruppe der Formel — N = C = Y, wobei Y für Sauerstoff- oder Schwefelatom steht, mit

Bisher ist eine beträchtliche Anzahl von Verbindungen als Katalysatoren zur Beschleunigung von
Isocyanatreaktionen im allgemeinen und zur PoIyurethanherstellung im besonderen vorgeschlagen worden.
Dabei fanden besonders die tert.Amine als Katalysatoren Beachtung; ein Nachteil ihrer Verwendung
ist jedoch die zur Erzielung befriedigender Reaktionsgeschwindigkeit notwendige Anwendung
äußerst großer Mengen.
In der französischen Patentschrift 1 210 366 werden bestimmten Katalysatoren beschrieben, die zur Beschleunigung
von Reaktionen organischer Verbindungen mit einer oder mehreren — N = C = Y-Gruppen,
wobei Y für Sauerstoff- oder Schwefelatom steht, in Verbindungen, die aktive Wasserstoffatome
enthaltende Gruppen besitzen, äußerst gut geeignet sind. Die gemäß den dort beschriebenen Verfahren
erzielbare Reaktionsgeschwindigkeit beträgt das Tausendfache der Geschwindigkeit, die mit den bis
dahin neuesten Katalysatoren erzielt werden konnte.
Das erfindungsgemäße Verfahren zur Herstellung von Urethangruppen aufweisenden Schaumstoffen auf
Grundlage von Verbindungen mit mehreren aktiven Wasserstoffatomen und Polyisocyanaten bzw. PoIyisothiocyanaten,
gegebenenfalls Vernetzern, und in Gegenwart von Organometallverbindungen unter Formgebung ist nun dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß
als Organometallverbindungen organische Arsen-, Antimon- oder Wismutverbindungen, die eine direkte
Bindung zwischen einem Kohlenstoffatom und einem Atom des Arsens, Antimons oder Wismuts besitzen,
in Kombination mit einem tert.Amin verwendet werden.
Wie in der obenerwähnten Patentschrift ausgeführt, sind die mit den obengenannten Zinn-Katalysatoren
allein erzielbaren Reaktionsgeschwindigkeiten vieltausendmal größer als die Geschwindigkeiten, die mit
tert.Aminkatalysatoren erzielbar sind. Es wurde nun festgestellt, daß die erfindungsgemäß verwendeten
Katalysatorgemische offensichtlich eine synergistische Wirkung ausüben, da die gemäß den erfindungsgemäßen
Verfahren erzielbaren Reaktionsgeschwindigkeiten etwa zwei- bis siebenmal größer sind als die
besten Reaktionsgeschwindigkeiten von Zinn-Katalysatoren der genannten Patentschrift, wenn diese als
Verfahren zur Herstellung
von Urethangruppen aufweisenden

Eine wichtige Reaktion in der Polyurethanchemie
ist die Bildung der Urethanbindung. Diese Reaktion ist eine Polyaddition von Isocyanaten und Polyäthern
oder Polyestern zur Bildung des Polyätherurethans oder Polyesterurethans:
-NCO + —R—OH
-NH-C-OR-(Urethan)
Die Fähigkeit der entsprechenden Katalysatorgemische, aus einer organischen Verbindung der Arsengruppe
mit mindestens einer direkten Kohlenstoffbindung und tertAminen Isocyanatreaktionen, welche
zur Urethanbildung führen, zu beschleunigen, wird deutlich veranschaulicht, indem man Phenylisocyanat
und n-Butanol unter sorgfältig geregelten Bedingungen umsetzt. Die Versuche wurden in jedem Fall so durchgeführt,
daß äquimolare Mengen von Phenylisocyanat und n-Butanol in Dioxan als Lösungsmittel gemischt,
zu jeder Mischung ein anderer Katalysator zugegeben und die Reaktionsgeschwindigkeit bei 7O0C festge-

stellt wurde. Die Umsetzung, Katalysatoren und relativen Geschwindigkeiten, bezogen auf Molprozent
Katalysator pro Mol Isocyanat, sind in Tabelle 1 angegeben.

Eine andere sehr wichtige Reaktion in der Polyurethanchemie ist die Bildung der Harnstoffbindung durch
Umsetzung von Isocyanaten mit Wasser:

miteinander verbunden. Das gebildete Kohlendioxydgas liefert ein expandiertes Material.
Eine weitere wichtige Reaktion in der Polyurethanchemie ist die Bildung der Biuretbindung durch
Umsetzung von Isocyanaten und der Harnstoffgruppierung (vgl. die folgende Rekation von Isocyanaten
mit Diphenylharnstoff):

Die obigen Daten zeigen die bemerkenswert hohe katalytische Wirksamkeit der Gemische aus organischen Verbindungen der Arsengruppe, die durch
Anwesenheit mindestens einer direkten Bindung zwischen einem Kohlenstoffatom und einem Atom
des Arsens, Antimons oder Wismuts gekennzeichnet sind, und tert.Aminen. Die katalysierten Reaktionen
waren so ausgewählt worden, daß ein genauer Vergleich der Reaktionsgeschwindigkeiten unter sorgfältig
geregelten Bedingungen möglich war und daß sie als Richtlinie für die Vielzahl der in Betracht kommenden
»katalytischen Mengen« dienen konnten. Es kann irgendeine Menge des Katalysatorgemisches verwendet
werden; es wird jedoch eine Konzentration im Bereich von etwa 0,01 bis 5,0 Gewichtsprozent, bezogen auf
die gesamte Reaktionsmasse, empfohlen, obgleich gegebenenfalls auch Mengen unterhalb oder oberhalb
dieses Bereiches verwendet werden können.
Die molaren Konzentrationen der Bestandteile der Katalysatorgemische können in einem weiten Bereich
variiert werden, da die molaren Konzentrationen der entsprechenden Bestandteile nicht unbedingt ein entscheidendes
Merkmal der vorliegenden Erfindung sind. Die molaren Konzentrationen von organischer Metall-
butylarsen)-sulfid, Bis-(d-octylantimon)-oxyd, Bis-(dibutylantimon)
-sulfid, Bis - (diphenylantimon) - sulfid, Tetraoctyldistibin, Tetraphenyldistibin und Tetramethyldibismutin.
Selbstverständlich brauchen die unmittelbar oder durch Sauerstoff-, Schwefel-, Stickstoff- oder Phosphoratome an die Schlüsselatome gebundenen organischen
Reste in irgendeiner Verbindung nicht die gleichen zu sein. Die Struktur der Verbindung braucht
ίο in keiner Weise symmetrisch zu sein. Weiterhin können
die Verbindungen auch eine oder mehrere Bindungen von einem Schlüsselatom zu einem Halogen-, Wasserstoff-,
Sauerstoff-, Schwefel-, Stickstoff- oder Phosphoratom besitzen.
TertAmine, die als Komponenten der Katalysatorgemische
geeignet sind, sind z. B. tert.Amine, die mit Isocyanatgruppen praktisch nicht reaktionsfähig sind,
sowie tertAmine, die mit den Isocyanatgruppen reaktionsfähige, aktive Wasserstoffatome enthalten.
verbindung der Arsengruppe zu Amin können von 100: 1 bis 1: 10 000 variieren, obgleich gegebenenfalls
auch molare Konzentrationen oberhalb oder unterhalb der obigen empfohlenen Verhältnisse angewendet
werden können.
Zu den vielen Arten von organischen Verbindungen der Arsengruppe, die durch die Anwesenheit einer
direkten Kohlenstoffbindung gekennzeichnet sind und von denen besonders wichtige Verbindungen getestet
worden sind, gehören z. B.:
(A) Verbindungen mit 3 oder 5 Kohlenstoff-Schlüsselatom-Bindungen,
wie z. B. Tributylarsin, Trioctylarsin, Tribenzylarsin, Trivinylarsin, Tributylstibin, Pentaphenylantimon,
Trioctylbismutin.
(B) Verbindungen mit mindestens einer Kohlenstoff-Schlüsselatom-Bindung,
wobei die verbleibenden Valanzen der drei- oder fünfwertigen Schlüsselatome durch Bindungen an Wasserstoff- oder Halogenatome
oder Hydroxylgruppen gesättigt sind, wie z. B. Octyl-
arsin, Octyldichlorarsin, Phenyldimercaptoarsin, Phe- 20 Tert.Amine, die mit Isocyanatgruppen praktisch nicht

Die folgenden Beispiele veranschaulichen das erfindungsgemäße Verfahren.
5 Beispiel 1
Aus folgenden Bestandteilen wurde eine Mischung hergestellt:
a) 75 g eines Polypropylenglykols mit einem Molekulargewicht
von 2010 und 75 g eines Reaktions-Produktes aus Glycerin und Propylenoxyd mit
einem Molekulargewicht von 2990,
b) 55,3 g einer 80:20-Mischung aus 2,4- und
2,6-Toluylendiisocyanat,
c) 4,0 g Wasser,
d) 1,25 g eines Emulgators,
e) 0,1 g l^Diaza-bicyclo-P^^j-octan,
f) 1,0 g Tributylarsin.
Der erhaltene Schaumstoff besaß eine Dichte von 0,060 g/cm3.

Aus folgenden Bestandteilen wurde eine Mischung hergestellt:
a) 75 g eines Polypropylenglykols mit einem Molekulargewicht von 2010 und 75 g eines Reaktionsproduktes aus Glycerin und Propylenoxyd mit
einem Molekulargewicht von 2990,
b) 55,3 g einer 80:20-Mischung aus 2,4- und
2,6-Toluylendiisocyanat,
c) 4,0 g Wasser,
d) 1,25 g eines Emulgators,
e) 0,1 g l,4-Diaza-bicyclo-[2,2,2]-octan,
f) 1,0 g Tributylstibin.
Der erhaltene Schaumstoff härtete gut aus und besaß eine Dichte von 0,037 g/cm3.
Aus folgenden Bestandteilen wurde eine Mischung hergestellt:
a) 75 g eines Polypropylenglykols mit einem Molekulargewicht von 2010 und 75 g eines Reaktionsproduktes aus Glycerin und Propylenoxyd mit
einem Molekulargewicht von 2990,
b) 55,3 g einer 80:20-Mischung aus 2,4- und
2,6-Toluylendiisocyanat,
c) 4,0 g Wasser,
d) 1,25 g eines Emulgators,
e) 0,1 g M-Diaza-bicyclo-ß^^-octan,
f) 1,0 g Triäthylstibinoxyd.
Der erhaltene Schaumstoff härtete schneller aus als eine ähnliche Mischung, die unter Verwendung von
tertAmin allein als Katalysator erhalten worden war.
Claims (6)
1. Verfahren zur Herstellung von Urethangruppen aufweisenden Schaumstoffen auf Grundlage
von Verbindungen mit mehreren aktiven Wasserstoffatomen und Polyisocyanaten bzw. PoIyisothiocyanaten,
gegebenenfalls Vernetzern, und in Gegenwart von Organometallverbindungen unter Formgebung, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß als
Organometallverbindungen organische Arsen-, Antimon- oder Wismutverbindungen, die eine
direkte Bindung zwischen einem Kohlenstoffatom und einem Atom des Arsens, Antimons oder
Wismuts besitzen, in Kombination mit einem tertAmin verwendet werden.
2. Verfahren nach Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß als Organometallverbindung Tributylarsin,
Tributylstibin oder Triäthylstibinoxyd verwendet wird.
3. Verfahren nach Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß als tertAmin Triäthylamin, N9N-N',N'-Tetramethyl-l,3-butylendiamin
oder 1,4-Diaza-bicyclo-[2,2,2]-octan verwendet wird.
4. Verfahren nach Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß als tert.Amin ein solches verwendet
wird, das mit NCO-Gruppen reaktionsfähige Wasserstoffatome enthält.
5. Ausführungsform nach Anspruch 1 bis 4, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß ein OH-Gruppen
aufweisender Polyalkylenglykoläther oder PoIyalkylenglykolmischäther
mit Polyisocyanat umgesetzt wird.
6. Ausführungsform nach Anspruch 1 bis 4, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß ein OH-Gruppen
aufweisender Polyester, Estergruppen aufweisender Polyäther oder ein Polyesteramid mit Polyisocyanat
umgesetzt wird.
