Device for coupling railway vehicles Mi.
The invention relates to a device for coupling railway vehicles, in which, in addition to an automatic coupling on the vehicle, an auxiliary coupling which can be pivoted into the position of use in front of this coupling is provided. which is used to couple vehicles equipped with a screw coupling.
Automatic clutches have already become known which are equipped with auxiliary clutches that are coupled by hand with the screw clutches of normal design. For this purpose the operator has to step between the two vehicles. which is even more dangerous than the coupling of two of the previously used screw couplings. because the space available is limited due to the larger space required by the automatic coupling head. Such couplings are also uneconomical, v, eil must be coupled by hand despite the installation of automatic couplings, u. between as long as cars with old clutch couplings are still running.
These difficulties, which arise especially during the transition period, i. i. the period during which the individual railway administrations convert their rolling stock to automatic couplings is one of the reasons why the introduction of automatic couplings, the advantages of which are recognized, has not yet taken place on European railways. since it is practically impossible. to convert the entire fleet of vehicles to automatic couplings at once.
The invention now makes it possible. during the transition period. which will extend over a few years to bridge the existing difficulties in an economic way. This is achieved in that the auxiliary clutch according to the invention, which is arranged on the automatic clutch in accordance with the proposals already made, is also designed as an automatic clutch

automatically connects to the hook of this coupling.
An embodiment of a device according to the invention is illustrated in the schematic drawings, u. Between Fig. 1 shows the subject matter of the invention in a side view and Fig. 2 shows the same device seen from above.
In the figures, 1 means an automatic dome head of any type. which only comes into operation when the car is to be connected to a second car. which also has an automatic clutch of the same type. According to the invention, in addition to this automatic coupling head, a further automatic coupling device 2 is arranged on the vehicle. which is rotatably mounted on the actual automatic coupling head 1.
On the back of the automatic auxiliary coupling 2, a support member is articulated, by means of which it is supported at any time in the position of use against the final automatic coupling 1 and, on the other hand, in the downward position.
EMI1.2
if it is held in the position of use by the member 4, the coupling is ready for coupling to the hook J of a carriage with a normal screw coupling.
In the event that two carriages are to be connected with automatic couplings. it is necessary. to fold down the coupling head 2 in the non-use position shown in dashed lines and hold there what z. B. can be done by means of the support 4 that they abuse from their base

raised and hung in a correspondingly arranged hook 5 in such a way that the automatic coupling of the head 1 is not hindered by the auxiliary device 2.
Since the design of the old wagons often does not take into account the stresses that occur due to the coupling joint of automatic central buffer couplings, it would also be advisable to provide the side buffers with a damping device, etc. betw. especially in those cases where there is a relatively weakly dimensioned carriage frame.
The old buffers would not be suitable for some cases of automatic coupling, because with their strong springs they force the carriages too far apart in curves and - if two carriages collide, they would have an unfavorable effect on the automatic coupling process,
The replacement of the side buffers of the old wagons could take place at the same time as the installation of the central buffer coupling, whereby the buffers can optionally be provided with weaker springs and some known damping device, which consumes the kinetic energy of the wagons when they collide, but the wagons come closer together calm

thoroughly resolved.
In economic terms, the device according to the invention brings an improvement in operation for the entire transition period, which with the number of automatic. wagon equipped with the auxiliary coupling heads according to the invention increases. there. In contrast to the previous proposals to make the coupling of new and old couplings by hand, the total loss of time for coupling is reduced more and more.
