Definitions
- This invention relates to a drill having a diameter of 3 mm or less (which is referred to as a small-diameter drill in the present invention) that improves the machining performance while ensuring the strength of the cutting edge.
- a drill with a thick core is subjected to cross thinning (also referred to as X thinning) to reduce thrust.
- a drill with a thick core has a large cutting edge, and when the flute (twist groove) cutting edge is a straight cutting edge, the radial rake (radial rake angle of the outer cutting edge) is greatly negative. Therefore, a positive radial rake is imparted by bending the flute portion cutting edge into a concave shape with respect to the rotation direction of the drill.
- Patent Document 1 As a conventional example of a small diameter drill with such a design, for example, there is one disclosed in Patent Document 1 below.
- a drill with a thick core has a small flute depth and a small groove area, making it difficult to treat chips.
- small-diameter drills have a small feed amount during machining for reasons of rigidity (conventional drills have a recommended feed condition of 1% of the drill diameter), which makes chip disposal more and more difficult.
- a drill with a flute cutting edge bent into a concave shape tends to be deficient because the strength of the outer peripheral portion of the cutting edge decreases.
- the strength reduction of the outer peripheral portion of the cutting edge caused by bending the flute cutting edge into a concave shape can be compensated to some extent by performing a return processing to set the radial rake to 0 °, for example. This is not preferable for a small diameter drill because the amount of the back metal that affects the diameter is sacrificed.
- the present invention suppresses the strength reduction of the outer peripheral portion of the cutting edge without providing a return portion while ensuring the sharpness of the outer peripheral portion of the cutting edge without shortage, and in addition, obtains good machining accuracy and good chip disposal. It is an issue.
- a small-diameter drill having a diameter of 3 mm or less and having a tip subjected to cross thinning is configured as follows. That is, when viewed from the front, the flute cutting edge is bent in a concave shape with respect to the rotation direction with respect to a virtual straight line connecting the radial outer end of the flute cutting edge and the radial outer end of the thinning cutting edge.
- the dent amount d of the flute part cutting edge from the virtual straight line is set in the range of 0.5% to 2% of the drill diameter D, and the thinning part cutting edge length B and the flute part cutting edge length A ratio B: A is set to 0.6 to 0.9: 1, and the radius of curvature R1 of the heel side groove surface of the flute is greater than the radius of curvature R2 of the flute portion cutting edge side groove surface in a cross-sectional view perpendicular to the axis. Also set to small.
- the radial rake ⁇ at the radially outer end of the flute cutting edge is too small, the sharpness of the outer edge of the cutting edge will deteriorate, and conversely if the radial rake ⁇ is too large, the strength of the outer edge of the cutting edge will be insufficient. Therefore, it is preferable to set the radial rake ⁇ between -5 ° and -15 °.
- the body core thickness is set to 0.30D to 0.37D and the groove width ratio ⁇ 1: ⁇ 2 is set to 0.70 to 0.90: 1.
- the small-diameter drill of this invention suppresses the blunting of the radial rake by bending the flute cutting edge into a concave shape, and reduces the cutting edge outer peripheral portion without performing the return processing of the outer peripheral portion to reduce the amount of back metal. Can be increased.
- the dent amount d of the flute cutting edge is in the range of 0.5% to 2% of the drill diameter D, it is possible to suppress the strength reduction of the outer peripheral portion of the cutting edge.
- the radius of curvature of the heel side groove surface of the flute is made smaller than the radius of curvature of the flute portion cutting edge side groove surface, so that chip disposal is improved.
- chips generated by drilling are originally curled and processed by the flow of chips generated by the flute cutting edge. Because the volume of the chips cut by the blade (which is thicker than the chips generated by the flute cutting edge) is larger, the influence of the chips generated by the flute cutting edge is reduced and the chips cannot be curled. In the deep hole processing, it becomes difficult to discharge well.
- the drill of the present invention reaches the heel side while the chips generated by the flute cutting edge have a relatively large outflow energy. Therefore, the chip is guided to the heel side groove surface with a small radius of curvature and receives a large curling force, so that the chip scraped off by the thinning part cutting edge also flows to the flute without resistance, thereby discharging the chip. Smoothness and stable performance is achieved even in deep hole machining.
- This small diameter drill 1 has a cutting edge 4, a cross thinning portion 5, and a chisel edge (not shown) at its tip. Further, a flute (twisted groove) 6 is provided on the outer periphery of the body 2. Two each of the cutting edge 4, the cross thinning portion 5, and the flute 6 are arranged symmetrically about the rotation center.
- the scissors cutting edge 4 includes a thinning part cutting edge 4b and a flute part cutting edge 4a connected to the outer end of the thinning part cutting edge.
- the flute portion cutting edge 4a is rotated in a rotational direction with respect to a virtual straight line SL connecting the radial outer end P of the flute portion cutting edge 4a and the radial outer end Q of the thinning portion cutting edge 4b in the front view of FIG.
- it is bent in a concave shape (that is, the shape of the flute portion cutting edge is a weak arc), and the amount d of the flute portion cutting edge 4a from the virtual straight line SL is 0.5% to 2% of the drill diameter D Is set in the range.
- the ratio B: A of the length B of the thinning part cutting edge 4b to the length A of the flute part cutting edge 4a is set to 0.6 to 0.9: 1. Further, in the cross-sectional view perpendicular to the axis of FIG. 4, the radius of curvature R1 of the groove surface 6b on the heel 7 side of the flute 6 shown in FIG. 3 is smaller than the radius of curvature R2 of the groove surface 6a along the flute cutting edge 4a. Is set to
- the radius of curvature R2 of the groove surface of the flute 6 on the flute portion cutting edge side is set to about 70% to 140% of the drill diameter D, and the radius of curvature R1 of the heel side groove surface is set to about 20% to 40% of the drill diameter D.
- the radial rake ⁇ (radial rake angle at the outer end of the flute cutting edge) is set to ⁇ 7 °.
- the core thickness of the body 2 is set to 0.30D to 0.37D and the groove width ratio ⁇ 1: ⁇ 2 is set to 0.70 to 0.90: 1.
- the drill can be used for high-efficiency machining with sufficient strength of the body, and by setting the groove width ratio ⁇ 1: ⁇ 2 within the above range in high-efficiency machining. It is possible to obtain a chip discharge without any problem.
- the high-efficiency machining referred to here is machining in which the feed is increased to about 3% of the drill diameter D.
- the cutting edge 4 is preferably a blade that has been subjected to a round honing strengthening process. Although it is better not to reinforce the cutting edge in terms of sharpness, wear of each part of the cutting edge is stabilized when the refining treatment of round honing is performed, and the processing performance of chips is favorably affected.
