Definitions
- the invention relates to a foldable plate made of at least two plate elements, in particular hardboard, which are connected to one another in an articulated manner by an adhesive layer, and a method for their production.
- Plate elements in particular made of hard fiber plates, are known from the prior art, which are used as cabinet rear walls.
- these were, for example, delivered as a two-part rear wall and connected to one another on site by means of separate plastic connecting elements.
- This has the disadvantage that different parts have to be manufactured both during manufacture and during delivery, and that no stable rear wall is created during installation, since the rear wall parts can be displaced relative to one another and a corresponding fastening of the rear wall to the cabinet is absolutely necessary.
- a foldable plate, in particular hardboard, is known from EP 0 759 839 B1, wherein at least one groove is provided which enables the plate to be folded about a pivot axis and is arranged in the region of the pivot axis, and the groove at least partially connects with a plate which pivotably connects the plate parts to be folded Adhesive is provided.
- Adhesive is provided.
- two trapezoidal grooves arranged opposite one another are provided in order to facilitate the pivotability of the plates.
- a disadvantage of the plate elements known from DE 198 04 787 C2 and EP 0 759 839 B1 is that the open groove provided in the swivel area of the plate elements affects the stability of the plate elements, since there is no stiffening in the plane when the plate elements are pivoted into the plane Area of the connecting edges is achieved. Since the plate elements have a Angle of 180 ° can be pivoted, there is even the danger that if the pivoting is too strong, the adhesive connection will tear due to overstretching.
- the present invention is therefore based on the object of providing a stable, foldable plate which is easy and safe to handle for end users and consists of at least two plate elements which are connected to one another in an articulated manner by an adhesive, stiffening of the edge region being possible in the pivoted or unfolded state of the plate elements should.
- the plate should also be able to be produced by a simple and inexpensive method.
- the invention relates to a foldable plate with at least two plate elements which are connected to one another in an articulated manner by an adhesive layer along adjoining connecting edges with a rectangular profile, so that the plate elements can be folded about an axis, the plate elements being flush with their connecting edges in the folded state lie on top of each other and the adhesive layer is at least partially adhered to the connecting edges of the respective plate elements, and the adhesive-coated connecting edges butt butt in the unfolded state of the plate elements.
- the invention further relates to a method for producing the foldable plate according to the invention, comprising the steps: a) separating a plate by means of a separating step into at least two plate elements, b) placing the two plate elements on top of one another, c) aligning the plate elements flush along the connecting edges of the plate elements , d) applying an adhesive to at least part of the respective connecting edges, and e) allowing the adhesive to harden in the folded state of the plate elements.
- the edge area is stiffened so that when the plate according to the invention is used, for example as a cabinet rear wall, a stable rear wall is produced since the rear wall parts do not oppose one another can be moved. Furthermore, with the usual effort, it is not possible to pivot the plate elements according to the invention over one another at an angle of 180 °, so that there is no risk of the adhesive connection being overstretched and the adhesive connection tearing.
- the connecting edges of the plate elements are formed at right angles, so that their end faces parallel or butt on the connecting edge of the opposite plate element in the pivoted state of the plate elements and furthermore no grooves or grooves are formed on the connecting edges of the plate elements, there is also no increased risk of breakage of the connecting edges during the handling and transport of the plate elements in the folded and unfolded state.
- the plate according to the invention can be handled easily and safely by the end user. Even if there is a warping of the individual plate elements, this has no disadvantageous effects when handling the plate, since no form-fitting pin-groove connection of the plate elements has to be made.
- the adhesive layer which performs a hinge function, usually has a maximum thickness between 0.01 and 2 mm, preferably between 0.05 and 1 mm, more preferably between 0.1 and 0.5 mm.
- the adhesive used for the adhesive layer is a commercially available adhesive, for example a synthetic adhesive based on polyurethane. Such adhesives are offered as hot-melt adhesives and usually have a processing temperature of 100 to 150 ° C.
- the adhesive layer is preferably adhered to the entire surface of the connecting edges. In the unfolded state of the plate, the entire space between the plate elements is thus covered filled the adhesive layer, but the adhesive-coated connecting edges do not adhere to each other.
- the plate elements themselves usually have a thickness between 1 and 20 mm, preferably between 2 and 10 mm, more preferably between 3 and 5 mm.
- the plate elements can be material plates of various nature, for example made of metal, plastic or wood. Wood fiber boards, such as HDF or MDF boards, are particularly preferred. Hardboard is particularly suitable for use as rear wall panels.
- the foldable plate according to the invention is otherwise produced analogously to the methods known in the prior art, preferably in a continuous mode of operation, the plates being successively fed to the respective working steps, such as a separating step in which the plates are separated into at least two plate elements, for example by a saw a folding step, in which the separated plate elements are placed on top of one another and aligned flush, and an adhesive step, in which an adhesive is applied to the connecting edges.
- the folding and gluing steps can also be carried out in a conventional folding gluing machine.
- the adhesive then cures when the plate elements are folded. After the adhesive has hardened, the folded plate elements can be unfolded or pivoted onto one another.
- the adhesive forms an adhesive layer with a hinge function, as a result of which the plate elements are kept at a certain distance from one another when they are unfolded. However, this distance is completely filled by the then folded adhesive layer. Since the end face of the adhesive-coated connecting edge strikes the adhesive-coated connecting edge of the opposite plate element parallel or butt in the unfolded state of the plate elements, the adhesive layer is at most perceptible as a narrow butt joint, and stiffening of the edge area of the plate elements is achieved at the same time.
- the transparency of the adhesive connection is very low. If desired, the transparency effect can be completely prevented, for example by adding opacifying agents or color pigments to the adhesive. Such agents or color pigments can be adapted to the decor of the plate if necessary.
- the foldable plate according to the invention has at least one visible or decorative side.
- the procedure can be such that the plate elements are placed on one another with their visible side. This has the advantage that the visible side of the plate does not have to be particularly protected in the folded state during transport and storage. However, it is also possible for the plate elements to be placed on one another in such a way that their visible sides are on the outside. If necessary, protective measures must then be taken during storage and transport of the panel in the folded state in order to avoid damage to the visible side.
- Figure 3 a partial sectional view of plate elements in the unfolded state
- FIGS 1 and 2 show schematically individual steps in the manufacture of the plate according to the invention.
- FIG. 2 shows how, after the flush alignment according to FIG. 1, an adhesive 5 20 has been applied to the entire surface of the respective connecting edges 3 and 4.
- the adhesive 5 was applied in a uniform layer thickness by means of a nozzle head (not shown). This form of adhesive application ensures the formation of a uniform layer of adhesive when the panel elements are unfolded.
- a nozzle head not shown.
- This form of adhesive application ensures the formation of a uniform layer of adhesive when the panel elements are unfolded.
- the adhesive After the adhesive has been applied, it is allowed to harden while the plate elements are in the folded state. After curing, the folded plate elements can be pivoted onto one another, as a result of which the folded adhesive layer 5 with a hinge function is formed, as shown in FIG. 3.
- FIG. 3 thus shows an embodiment of a plate according to the invention with two plate elements 1 and 2 in the unfolded state.
- the profile of the connecting edges 3 and 4 is rectangular.
- the plate elements 35 1 and 2 are connected to one another in an articulated manner by the adhesive layer 5.
- the adhesive layer 5 adheres to the entire surface of the connecting edges 3 and 4 of the respective plate elements.
- a gap is formed between the plate elements in the unfolded state, but this is completely filled by the folded adhesive layer 5.
