Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ROBERT SCOTT ANI) AARON JIMVELL, OF LAVRENOE, MASSACHUSETTS.
DESIGN FOR FABRICS.
Specification forming part of Design No. 9,470., dated August 22,1876; application liled August 4, 1876. [Term of Patent 7 years] To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, ROBERT SCOTT and AAnoN JEWELL, both of Lawrence, in the county of Essex and State of Massachusetts, have in vented a new ,Design for Fancy Torsted or Woolen Fabrics; and we do hereby declare that the following' specification. taken in counection with the drawing making a part of the saine, is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
The effect of our novel design will be apparent from an inspection of the accompany ing drawing, to which reference is made, this cl'cct heilig produced as hereinafter described.
Double stripes A A, running lengthwise and crosswise of the fabric, divide its surface into squares B, said stripes and squares being shaded asfollows: The longitudinal and transverse double stripes A A are shaded by diagonal lilies in herring-bone fashion, eX- cept at their intersections or crossings-these intersections, in the forni of squares C, bcing of so-called basket-weaving pattern. The said stripes, therefore, present a series of double rectangles, diagonally shaded, in alternation with basket-Woven squares. The large squares B are subdivided by threadlilies into smaller squares, the surfaces of the latter being shaded by short and prominent diagonal lines, opposite in direction on adjoining squares, both longitudinally and trailsversely, thereby1 givingr a marked effect.
Tile fabric may be woven in any preferred variety or combination of colors, for giving effect to the design above described, the distinctive character of which is the combination of stripes of diagonal and basket Weaving with diagonally-shaded squares, as shown.
What we claim is- The design for fancy worstcd or woolen fabrics, substantially as herein described, and represented in the drawing.
ROBERT SCOTT. AARON J EWELL. Witnesses:
