The ell'eet ol' nrv novel design will be apparent. on an inspeetion of the accompanying drawings, to which reference is made. baid etl'ect is produced by the arrangement of the diagonal and transverse hars, which are so placed upon the ground-work of the fabric as to appear in longitudinal, transverse, and diagonal stripes.

The diagonal bars A and C alternate withthe transverse bars 13, to form both longitudinal and transverse stripes, but the bars A andCdonotappearin the saine stripes ruiming either lengthwise or erosswise el.' the t'aln'ie. Longitudinal and transverse stripes. composed ot'hars A and l, alternate, respectively, with stripes composed et' hars U and l. The diagA onal stripes have a dil'erent composition, the transverse hars B t'orniing one series ot'strines, while the diagonal hars .t and (j, in alternation, forni another series, the stripes ot' the latter series being arranged in alternation with those of the former.
