DESIGN FOR FANCY CASSIMERES.
Specification forming part of Design No. 9.898, dated April 10, 1877; application tiled March 26, W77. [Term of Patent 7 years] To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, \VLLLIAM A. \VALTON, ot' the city and count. of Providence and State of Rhode I land, have invented a new and useful Design for Fancy Uassiineres; and I do hereby declare that the following specification, taken in connection with the drawing making a part of the same, is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
The effect of my novel design will be apparent from an inspection of the accompairvine' drawing, to which reference is made, said effect being produced by the combination of alternating stripes having peculiar characteristics, as hereinafter described.
Narrow longitudinal stripes A, of corded weaving, divide the tabric into broad stripes B and U, of unequal width, the said stripes being of plain weaving, the surface ot which is shaded as follows: by lines and squares whose color varies from that of the groundwork of the fabric.
The stripe B is a threemembered stripe, the outer portions 1) hot which are of the same plain color, while the inner or central portion 11' is shaded by narrow longitudinal lines, which are crossed at regular and equal intervals by narrow transverse lines, as shown.
The broader stripe U is likewise composed of three parts, the outer and narrower members c 0 being of the same plain color, and the broader and inner member 0 being shaded by a series of rectangles, (I, the said rectangles being composed of small squares, in cheeker-board pattern.
The fabric may be woven in an preterred variety or combination of colors for giving efl'ect to the design above described. the char acteristic feature of which is a surface or plain weaving, divided by narrow longitudinal lines A, oi'faney weaving, into broad stripes l and U,t.he central portion olthe said stripe l3 being shaded by narrow longitudinal and transverse lines, while the central portion ot' the stripe U is shaded by small squares, as described and shown.
What I claim is-- The design for fancy cassimeres, substantially as herein described, and re n-esented in the drawing.
