PLOW
No'.171,435. Patented Dec. 21,1875.
WITNESSES IJV'V'EJV'TOR Q QK W.
M. m .k By w w Attorney PLPETEIN, PNOTOJJTNOGRAPK'ER. WASHINGTON D C UNITED STATES PATENT QFFIOE.
JOHN SEWELL, OF BOWDON, GEORGIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN PLOWS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 171,435, dated December 21, 1875; application filed September 18, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN SEWELL, of Bowdon, in the county of Carroll and in the State of Georgia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Flows; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.
My invention relates to turning plows, having a slotted foot for the attachment of the mold-board, &c.; and it consists in the construction ofa beveled bar with land-side attached thereto, and having pins and projections for holdingthe same firmly in place between the plow-foot and mold-board, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which myinvention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which- Figure l is a side view of a plow e bodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a rear elevation of the same. Figs. 3 and 4 are perspective views of the right and left hand beveled bars with the mold-board detached therefrom.
A represents an ordinary plow-beam, with. handles B, and braces O supporting the hanand it has a land-side bar, F, attached to it at or near its lower end.
A suitable distance above the lower end, near the outer or narrow edge, is a pin, 1), projecting from the under side, and anotherpin, d, projecting from the upper side. Above these pins there is a bolt-hole, 6, through the bar, and at the upper end is a lug or projection, a, extending toward the rear. The moldboard G, whether the same be for right or left hand, has two holes, 00 y, corresponding, respectively, with the pin 01 and bolt-hole c.
When placing the parts together, the pin b of the beveled bar E is inserted in a hole in the toe of the plow-foot D, and the hole a; in the mold-board is placed over the pin d, and the lug a between the bars D. A bolt, h, is then passed through the holes y and e, and between the bars I) of the plow-foot, and a nut, 13, screwed upon its end to fasten the parts firmly together.
By these means the plow can be easily changed from a right to a left turning plow, and vice versa, and other implements may be attached to the plow-foot.
Having thus fully described my invention, what Lclaim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The curved beveled bar E, provided with "land-side bar F, pins 12 d, hole 0, and projection a, in combination with the slotted plow-foot D, having perforated toe, the mold-board G, with holes a: y, and the bolt 71., with nut 2', all substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 13th day of August, 1875.
JOHN SEWELL. Witnesses:
