Description
J,PIERPONT.
. CULTIVAT-R.
N0I 171,420. v Patented Dec. 21,1875.
N.PETERS. PHOTO-LITHOGNAFHER, WASHINGTON, D CA UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE JOSHUA PIERPONT, OF BUSHNELL, ILLINOIS.
IMPROVEMENT IN -CIULTIVATORS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 171,420, dated December 2l, 11.375; application tiled November 6, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J osEUA PIERPONT, of Bushnell, county of McDonough and State of Illinois, have invented certain Improvements in Gultivators; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact descriptionV thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying'drawing and to the letters of ret'- erence marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to improvements in braces for the standards of cultivator-plows; and the invention consists, irst, in constructing the metallic block through which the brace passes witha Vertical series of holes for the connecting-pin, by means of which small degrees of adjustment may be effected, and, second, in improvements in the manner of securing said blocks to the standards, all as hereinafter fully described.
Figure l in the drawings is a side elevation of a cultivator-plow embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a perspective view ot'one ofthe blocks, alone. Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view through the block, and a side elevation of portions of a plow, enlarged.
Referring to the drawing by letters, letter A represents the beam, B B the standards, G C the shovels, and D the handles, of an ordinary cultivator-plow. E is the standard-brace, its upper end secured by a bolt to the side of the beam A, and its lower end perforated with a series of holes, c. Gr is a metallic block, slotted from front to rear for the passage of the brace E, its front side adapted to tit against the rear side of the standard B, and its rear side having projecting lugs g, which it will be evident from the dotted-lineillustral tions at Fig. 3 that, by using the break-pin in the same hole in the brace E and di'erent holes of the series in the lugs g, very slight degrees of adjustment of the standards may Y be effected, and by also using the different series of holes c in the brace, other and greater degrees of adjustment may be eected.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim. as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
l. The block G, constructed, as described,
with lugs g, series of holes g', and prongs h, substantially as and for the purpose specied.
2. The block Gr, having prongs It and lugs g, with a series of holes, g', combined for operation with the brace E, pin o, standards B,
and plow-beams A, substantially as and forV the purpose specified.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention have hereunto aflixed my signature.
JOSHUA PIEEPONT.
