Abstract

PURPOSE:To cut a thick plate under optimum conditions by setting a plasma jet electric current high as a plasma arc electric current becomes high to hold the plasma jet current even when the plasma arc current is shut off. CONSTITUTION:A necessary plasma arc current value is set by a main current setter 101 according to conditions of a material 20 to be cut. According to this, a necessary minimum plasma jet current value is set by a main current setter 201. A plasma jet is generated between a nozzle 301 and an electrode 302 by a high-frequency generator 11, a pilot power source 12 and a main power source 13. Next, a plasma arc is generated between the electrode 302 and the material 20 to be cut to cut the material 20 to be cut. When the plasma arc is extinguished and only the plasma jet is in a state generated between the electrode 302 and the nozzle 301, the plasma arc is again ignited by closing a switch 17 and bringing the electrode 302 close to the material 20 to be cut.
