Abstract

PURPOSE:To decrease the information processing time of an optical disk by providing a mechanism moving an optical disk driver to load automatically an optical disk to the driver in one-way carrying of an optical disk automatic carrier. CONSTITUTION:An optical disk storage 3 is provided to the upper part of an optical disk driver 2 writing or reading the information to an optical disk 1, the disk 1 is moved between the storage 3 and the driver 2 by an optical disk carrying mechanism 4 to store the disk to the storage 3 or to automatically load it to the driver 2. In loading the disk 1, the driver 2 is moved at a position beneath the carrying path of the disk 1 and when the loading is finished, the driver 2 is restored to the original position with the movement in the direction (f) while driving the disk 1. Thus, the time capable of writing or reading the information to/from the optical disk 1 is decreased to improve the performance.

The drive units are fixed in position, and the auto-loading mechanism must perform multi-directional transport operations, especially if multiple drives are to be loaded with media. As the parts become more complex, a powerful drive part is required to increase the speed of automatic parts, but the drive device has to be relocated.

This can be achieved by moving the spindles of the machine to the matching position and making the conveyance/operation also serve as an automatic loading operation. While the drive unit (4) rotates the optical disc at a constant speed, the drive unit returns to its original position, allowing the optical disc to be automatically loaded into the other drive unit.

As shown in FIG. 3, the optical disk 1 moves to a position directly below the transport path, and when loading is completed, the drive unit @2
rotates the optical disc 1 while moving in the direction of arrow f and returns to the original position. Further, when loading the optical disc 1 into the lower drive section M2, the same procedure can be performed. In an example of a conventional device, as shown in Fig. 2, the drive device 2 was fixed, so in order to load the optical disk 1 into the drive device 2, movements in two directions shown by arrows C were required.
