Abstract

PURPOSE:To read plural data out by arranging plural data reading arms under individual control on the same surface of a disk medium on which data are recorded previously. CONSTITUTION:Plural read reading arms 2, 3, 4 and 5 are arranged on the same surface of the disk medium 1, and readout control parts 6, 7, 8, and 9 are connected thereto respectively. Those readout control parts 6, 7, 8 and 9 control them completely independently of one another. Consequently, the disk medium 1 rotates continuously in the same direction and the four data reading arms 2, 3, 4, and 5 reciprocate at right angles to the rotating direction of the disk medium 1 as shown by arrows; and the four readout control parts 6, 7, 8, and 9 move the corresponding readout arms 2, 3, 4, and 5 to radial positions on the disk medium 1 where read data are stored and also control reads of data from circumferential positions on the radii.

On the other hand, in conventional disk drives, one data reading arm 2 is usually arranged on the same surface of a disk medium 1, as shown in FIG. Note that 6 is a readout control section here. In particular, in order to improve the data reading speed, there are systems in which multiple reading arms that are commonly controlled are arranged, but essentially the system is equipped with only one reading means. There isn't. There is a limit to the ability of such a single data reading means, and it is necessary to avoid creating a significant imbalance with the rapidly increasing storage capacity of disk media. Effective use of data is overdue.

In the present invention, since a plurality of data reading systems 6D are independent from each other, a plurality of independent data can be simultaneously read from the rotating disk medium 1.

This makes it possible to dramatically improve the data readability of the disk compared to conventional methods. In fact, for disk media having the same rotational speed, the amount of data that can be read out from all of the multiple arms at the same time is twice as many as the number of arms in the conventional single arm system, and the data reading capability is significantly improved.

According to the present invention, it is possible to easily obtain a disk storage device with improved data reading ability without increasing the rotational speed of the disk medium.
