Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the high temperature steam oxidation resistance and high temperature long duration strength, by carrying out the nitriding treatment at a low temperature of an austenite-containing alloy pipe made of Cr-Ni steel having a specific composition and further by carrying out the solution treatment of the alloy pipe. CONSTITUTION:Pipes made of austenite-containing alloy steel containing 15-26% Cr, 8-35% Ni, 1.0% or less Si, 2.0% or less Mn and 0.2% or less Ti and, if necessary, further at least one element of 3% or less Mo and 0.6% or less Al are mitrided at a relatively low temperature of 500-1.000 deg.C. Subsequently, the solution treatment of the pipe is carried out at a temperature of 1,100 deg.C or higher to form a fine grain layer 50-500mu thick having a grain size mumber of 7 or finer on the inner surface of the pipe and to provide the pipe with a structure comprising the residual part having a grain size of 3-7. As the nitriding treatment is carried out at a low temperature, the evaporation of Cr in the alloy steel and the formation of an oxide film on the inner surface of the pipe are prevented so that the high temperature steam oxidation resistance and the high temperature long duration strength are improved.
