Abstract
PURPOSE: To provide superior mechanical strength and toughness to the runner of a water turbine made of martensite stainless cast steel consisting of a specified percentage each of Fe, Cr and Mn by forming a carburized layer of ε phase or the like on the surface part of each vane of the runner.
CONSTITUTION: A carburized layer having a structure contg. ε phase or austenite phase and not contg. ferrite phase is formed on the surface part of at least each vane of the runner of a water turbine made of martensite stainless cast steel consisting of, by wt., 11.0W14.0% Cr, 2.0W9.0% Mn and the balance Fe. Especially by regulating the stainless cast steel to a composition consisting of, by wt., ≤0.1% C, ≤1.0% Si, 2.0W9.0% Mn, 0.5W8.0% Ni, 11.0W14.0% Cr and the balance essentially Fe or further contg. ≤2.0% Mo, the runner has high mechanical strength and toughness. The carburized layer contains 0.1W0.9% C. Thus, a runner with superior cavitation erosion resistance is obtd.
