Abstract

PURPOSE: To impart high hardness and excellent abrasion resistance to the titled alloy obtained by forming an Fe alloy with a specific composition containing C, Si, Mn, Cr and B even if a Cr content is low.
CONSTITUTION: Said ball steel for grinding has a chemical composition containing 1.50W3.00% of C, 0.5W1.20% of Si, 0.50W1.5% of Mn, 5.0W15.0% of Cr and 0.05W0.90% of B and, according to necessity, moreover containing 1% or less of Mo, 2% or less of Ni and 0.02% or less of Te and comprising the remainder of Fe. Said alloy is low in a Cr content and inexpensive compared to a 15 Cr cast iron which is a conventional ball alloy for grinding, but has the high hardness and the excellent abrasion resist ance. Moreover, the ball is subjected to heat treatment so as to impart uniform hardness toward the center thereof.
