Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve yield and decrease the number of steps by calcuating the volume of the material to be rolled, forecasting its finishing size, comparing the forecasting size and the permissible tolerances of the product and controlling the rolling.
CONSTITUTION: Known measurement means for outside diameter, thickness and width sizes are provided to ring rolling mills, and these are monitored with a process control computer. Volume is calculated from the detected outside diameter, thickness and width sizes and based on this volume, the finishing size of the cass when rolling controlling conforming to the previous one is continued is forecast. Next, the forecast finishing size thus obtained is compared with the permissible tolerances of the final annular product. If the forecast outside diameter, inside diameter and width sizes are all in the tolerances, the rolling controlling is so made as to make the finishing allowances for the inside and outside diameters equal. Next, if part of the forecast sizes deviate from the tolerances and the other forecast sizes satisfy the tolerances, the rolling is so controlled as to decrease the finishing allowances deviated from the tolerances and increase the finishing allowances as much as to conform to the finishing allowance portions decreases in the parts where there is a margin. Next, if the outside diameter, thickness and width sizes are all in excess of the finishing allowances and deviate from the tolerances, the finishing allowances for the outside circumferential side and width are decreased to the maximum tolerance values and these parts are concentrated on the inside circumferential side.
