Description

【発明の詳細な説明】 本発明は、小さい骨の断片を一緒にとめるため
に使用され、そして重合体材料、好ましくは動物
の身体に吸収される材料から作られた骨用ピン
(bone pin)に関する。本発明の骨用ピンには、
ピンを骨又は骨の断片中に直接挿入しうるよう
に、ピンの重合体部分の一端に切削具又はドリル
具が取りつけられている。
要するに本発明によれば、先細りにした重合体
部分及びこの重合体部分の細い方の端にとりつけ
られた切削具を有する骨用ピンが提供される。こ
のピンは骨又は骨の断片を通して挿入でき、切削
具を除去することができる。
骨用ピンは、悪影響なしに長期間動物の体内に
置くことができる医療用グレードの金属から一般
に作られている。金属の骨用ピンは普通骨のが治
つた後に身体から除去される。金属の骨用ピン、
特にキルシユネル針金(Kirschner wire)と呼
ばれる骨用ピンを挿る道具は、骨を通してピンを
穴あけ加工するドリル先端として使用しうる鋭端
を有していてよい。
骨用ピンとしてプラスチツク例えばポリエチレ
ンを使用することが提案されてきた。体内で吸収
される重合体材料から作られる骨用ピンも又提案
されてきた。これらの骨用ピンはポリグリコリド
又はポリラクチド重合体、或いはグリコリド及び
ラクチドの共重合体から、或いはポリジオキサノ
ン(poly−dioxanone)又は他の吸収しうる重合
体から製造することができる。ポリジオキサノン
から作られる骨用ピンは米国特許第4052988号に
開示されていて、いつの日か市販された。
ポリジオキサノンの骨用ピンは、骨の断片に、
或いは基礎の骨に、或いは一緒に維持すべき骨の
2つの隣接した断片間に又は断片中に穴を開ける
ことによつて使用される。適当な直径の穴をあけ
た後、トリルを除去し、その穴にポリジオキサノ
ンのピンを挿入し、骨の表面を越えて延びるピン
の部分を、メス又は他の装置で切断することによ
つて除去する。
この方法での問題は、骨に最初に穴を開けると
き骨の断片を配列し、ピンを挿入するためにドリ
ルを除去した後、断片の配列が乱れることがあつ
てピンを適切に挿入することに難点をもたらすと
いうことである。
本発明は重合体ピンに取りつけられたドリル先
端を有する上記骨用ピンを提供する。本発明は、
ピンが骨の1つの表面から反対側の表面へ完全に
貫通する場合に特に有用である。本発明の骨用ピ
ンは穿孔ドリルを用いることによつて位置させる
ことができる。ピンのドリル先端は接合すべき骨
の通る穴をあける。ドリル先端は骨の遠い方の表
面を越えて又は完全に貫通して延びる。次に、ピ
ンを骨の中へ押し入れる。次いでピンの重合体部
分と骨の表面を越えて延びるドリル先端を切り離
す。本発明の骨用ピンを用いるこの方法は、ピン
がドリル先端に直ぐ続いて骨の中を通るから、骨
の断片の誤つた配列という問題を完全に排除す
る。
本明細書において、第1図は骨の断片を通して
ピンを押し込むことによつて一緒にとめた2つの
骨の断片を示す。
第2図はドリル先端を取りつけられた骨用のピ
ンを示す。
第3図は骨の中に固定された重合体部分を示
す。
図面を参照すると、第1図は本発明の骨用ピン
の使用例を示す。ピンは骨10の部分を一緒にし
つかりとめるために使用されている。ピン11は
ドリル部分13の取り付けられた重合体部分12
から成る。ドリル部分はドリル先端14を有し、
重合体部分を先細りにしあるいは接着剤で又は他
の方法で取りつけられる。
ピンの重合体部分に用いる好適な非吸収性重合
体はポリエチレンであり、好適な吸収性重合体は
米国特許第4052988号に開示されるポリジオキサ
ノンである。
ピンの重合体部分には長さ1mm当り0.005〜
0.05mmのテーパーがつけられている。ピン11は
概ね約100〜200mmの長さを有するであろう。ピン
の重合体部分は約50〜100mmの長さを有し、そし
て道具の切断部分は約50〜100mmの長さを有する
であろう。この切断部分は最小直径を有するピン
の重合体部分の端部に固定されている。道具の重
合体部分は先細りにすることによつて、或いは連
続ピンを用いて2つの部分をエポキシ又は他の適
当な接合剤で接合することにより、或いはこれら
の方法の組合せにより切断部分に固定することが
できる。切断部分は道具の吸収しうる部分を受け
入れるべく針金の後方に開けられた穴を有するキ
ルシユナー針金片であつてもよい。道具の切断部
分のドリル先端14は、中空の外科用ドリルを用
いたとき、骨に穴を開けることができる。この中
空の外科用ドリルを用いる場合、ピンの切断部分
はドリルのチヤツクによつて保持され、ピンの重
合体部分はドリルの本体の中で、チヤツクの後方
まで延びる。図面に示すように道具の吸収しうる
部分は長さ1mm当り約0.005mm〜0.05mmのテーパ
ーを有する。ここでテーパーとは長さ1ミル当り
の直径の差である。道具の切断部分は道具の重合
体部分の最小直径より大きいが、道具の重合体部
分の最大直径ほど大きくない直径を有する。この
ピンのテーパーは、骨にあけられた穴の中にピン
が徐々に押込まれることを可能にする。ピンの直
径は結局骨の穴程度かあるいはそれより大きく、
ピンを骨の中にしつかり固定させるために、骨の
中へ圧入することができる。
ピンを挿入した後、第3図に示すように、骨を
越えて延びるピンは、ピンが骨と平らになるよう
に外科用メス又は他の適当な切断具で切り落すこ
とができる。
本発明の特徴及び態様は以下の通りである: 1 重合体材料から作られた円柱部分及びこの重
合体部分の一端に固定された切断部分を含む埋
植しうるピンからなり、該ピンの重合体部分が
長さ1mm当り0.005〜0.05mmのテーパーを有す
る骨用ピン。
2 ピンの重合体部分は動物の体内に吸収されう
る重合体から製造される上記1の方法。
3 ドリルの切断部分の先端は金属である上記1
の骨用ピン。
4 ピンの重合体部分は道具の切断部分に対して
先細にされている上記2の骨用ピン。
5 吸収しうる重合体はポリジオキサノである上
記2の骨用ピン。
【図面の簡単な説明】
第1図は骨の断片を通してピンを押し込むこと
によつて一緒にとめられた2つの骨の断片を示
し、第2図はドリル・ポイントの取りつけられた
骨用のピンを示し、そして第3図は骨の中に固定

    【特許請求の範囲】
  1. 1 重合体材料から作られた円柱部分及びこの重
    合体部分の一端に固定された切断部分を含む埋植
    しうるピンからなり、該ピンの重合体部分が長さ
    1mm当り0.005〜0.05mmのテーパーを有する骨用
    ピン。
