Description

【発明の詳細な説明】 本発明は、小さい骨の断片を一緒にとめるために使用さ
れ、そして重合体材料、好ましくは動物の身体に吸収さ
れる材料から作られた骨用ピン(bone pin)に
関する。本発明の骨用ピンには、ピンを骨又は骨の断片
中に直接挿入しうるように、ピンの重合体部分の一端に
切削具又はドリル具が取りつけられている。
要するに本発明によれば、先細りにした重合体部分及び
この重合体部分の細い方の端にとりつけられた切削具を
有する骨用ピンが提供される。このピンは骨又は骨の断
片を通して挿入でき、切削具を除去することができる。
骨用ピンは、悪影響なしに長期間動物の体内に置くこと
ができる医療用グレードの金属から一般に作られている
。金属の骨用ピンは普通骨が治った後に身体から除去さ
れる。金属の骨用ピン、特にキルシュネル針金(K 1
rschner wire)と呼ばれる骨用ピンを挿す
道具は、骨を通してピンを穴あけ加工するドリル先端と
して使用しうる鋭端を有していてよい。
骨用ピンとしてプラスチック例えばポリエチレンを使用
することが提案されてきた。体内で吸収される重合体材
料から作られる骨用ピンも又提案されてきた。これらの
骨用ピンはポリグリコリド又はポリラクチド重合体、或
いはグリコリド及びラクチドの共重合体から、或いはポ
リジオキサノン(poly−dioxanone)又は
他の吸収しうる重合体から製造することができる。ポリ
ジオキサノンから作られる骨用ピンは米国特許第4.0
52 988号に開示されていて、いつの日か市販され
た。
ポリジオキサノンの骨用ピンは、骨の断片に、或いは基
礎の骨に、或いは一緒に維持すべき骨の2つの隣接した
断片間に又は断片中に穴を開けることによって使用され
る。適当な直径の穴をあけた後、ドリルを除去し、その
穴にポリジオキサノンのピンを挿入し、骨の表面を越え
て延びるピンの部分を、メス又は他の装置で切断するこ
とによって除去する。
この方法での問題は、骨に最初に穴を開けるとき骨の断
片を配列し、ピンを挿入するためにドリルを除去した後
、断片の配列が乱れることがあってピンを適切に挿入す
ることに難点をもたらすということである。
本発明は重合体ピンに取りつけられたドリル先端を有す
る重合体骨用ピンを提供する。本発明は、ピンが骨の1
つの表面から反対側の表面へ完全に貫通する場合に特に
有用である。本発明の骨用ピンは穿孔ドリルを用いるこ
とによって位置させることができる。ピンのドリル先端
は接合すべき骨を通る穴をあける。ドリル先端は骨の遠
い方の表面を越えて又は完全に貫通して延びる。次に、
ピンを骨の中へ押し入れる。次いでピンの重合体部分と
骨の表面を越えて延びるドリル先端を切り離す。本発明
の骨用ピンを用いるこの方法は、ピンがドリル先端に直
ぐ続いて骨の中を通るから、骨の断片の誤った配列とい
う問題を完全に排除する。
本明細書において、第1図は骨の断片を通してピンを押
し込むことによって一緒にとめた2つの骨の断片を示す
第2図はドリル先端を取りつけられた骨用のピンを示す
第3図は骨の中に固定された重合体部分を示す。
図面を参照すると、第1図は本発明の骨用ピンの使用例
を示す。ピンは骨10の部分を一緒にしっかりとめるた
めに使用されている。ピン11はドリル部分J3の取り
付けられた重合体部分12がら成る。ドリル部分はドリ
ル先端14を有し、重合体部分を先細りにしあるいは接
着剤で又は他の方法で取りつけられる。
ピンの重合体部分に用いる好適な非吸収性重合体はポリ
エチレンであり、好適な吸収性重合体は米国特許第4,
052,988号に開示されるポリジオキサノンである
ピンの重合体部分には長さ1mm当り0,005〜0.
05mmのテーパーがつけられている。
ピン11は概ね約100〜200mmの長さを有するで
あろう。ピンの重合体部分は約50〜lOQmmの長さ
を有し、そして道具の切断部分は約50〜100mmの
長さを有するであろう。この切断部分は最小直径を有す
るピンの重合体部分の端部に固定されている。道具の重
合体部分は先細りにすることによって、或いは連続ピン
を用いて2つの部分をエポキシ又は他の適当な接合剤で
接合することにより、或いはこれらの方法の組合せによ
り切断部分に固定することかで・きる。切断部分は道具
の吸収しうる部分を受は入れるべく針金の後方に開けら
れた穴を有するキルシュナー針金片であってもよい。道
具の切断部分のドリル先端14は、中空の外科用ドリル
を用いたとき、骨に穴を開けることができる。この中空
の外科用ドリルを用いる場合、ピンの切断部分はドリル
のチャックによって保持され、ピンの重合体部分はドリ
ルの本体の中で、チャックの後方まで延びる。図面に示
すように道具の吸収しうる部分は長さ1mm当り約0.
005mm〜0.05mmのテーパーを有する。ここで
テーパーとは長さlミル当りの直径の差である。道具の
切断部分は道具の重合体部分の最小直径より大きいが、
道具の重合体部分の最大直径はど大きくない直径を有す
る。このピンのテーパーは、骨にあけられた穴の中にピ
ンが徐々に押込まれることを可能にする。ピンの直径は
結局骨の穴程度かあるいはそれより大きく、ピンを骨の
中にしっかり固定させるために、骨の中へ圧入すること
ができる。
ピンを挿入した後、第3図に示すように、骨を越えて延
びるピンは、ピンが骨と平らになるように外科用メス又
は他の適当な切断具で切り落すことができる。
本発明の特徴及び態様は以下の通りである:1、重合体
材料から作られた円柱部分及びこの重合体部分の一端に
固定された切断部分を含む埋植しうるピンからなり、該
ピンの重合体部分が長さ1mm当り0.005−0.0
5mmのテーパーを有する骨用ピン。
2、ピンの重合体部分は動物の体中に吸収されうる重合
体から製造される上記lの方法。
3、ドリルの切断部分の先端は金属である上記lの骨用
ピン。
4、ピンの重合体部分は道具の切断部分に対して先細に
されている上記2の骨用ピン。
5、吸収しうる重合体はポリジオキサノンである上記2
の骨用ピン。

    【特許請求の範囲】
  1. 重合体材料から作られた円柱部分及びこの重合体部分の
    一端に固定された切断部分を含む埋植しうるピンからな
    り、該ピンの重合体部分が長さ1mm当り0.005〜
    0.05mmのテーパーを有する骨用ピン。
