Description
係り、特に、一つの光ポートの出力を、選択的に一対の
他の光ポートのいずれかヘスイッチングする光ビーム・
スイッチング装置及びそれを用いた通信システムに関す
る。ここで各ポートは、通常、光ファイバ(光導波管)
の出口端又は人口端のいず熟かである。
ムにおいては、入力光ポートに到達した電磁放射ビーム
を、選択的に一対の出力ポートのいずれかの一つへスイ
ッチングすることが望まれている。それは、例えば、入
力光ファイバの出力端に到達した光信号ビームを、何時
でも、スイッチング制御信号に基づいて、一対の出口光
ファイバのいずれか一つへ選択的にスイッチすることで
ある。更に詳しく述べれば、遠距離通信スイッチング・
システムにおいて光通信経路を変更したい場合が往々に
しである。即ち、所定の入力ファイバ(1)から第1出
力光フアイバ(A)へ送られる第1経路である光経路(
IA)を、入力ファイバ(1)から第2出力光フアイバ
(B)へ送る第2経路(IB)へスイッチし、又、tJ
2経路から第1経路へ戻すスイッチングが望まれている

ている光スイツチング装置が代表的なものである。その
論文では、上記目的のための光スィッチは、光経路をス
イッチするための可動レンズを用いている。しかし、そ
のようなスイッチは、主に比較的重い部品を相当高速で
動かす必要があるため、ぎこちなく、かつ高価なものと
なっている。又、このようなスイッチに必要な従来の機
械加工の部品は、光ファイバと接続して用いるためには
、光学的調整上、十分な精度を欠いており、そのため各
スイッチを作る時に、望ましくない、高価で、時間のか
かる調整作業を必要としている。
劣化現象のために、長期間の安定性や信頼性に問題を含
んでいる。又、これらのスイッチは、−時的にアクセス
のない(オフ・ライン’)LANの局部ステーションで
、局部光源と接続して、必要な自己テスト操作をするこ
とができず、仮にできたとしても余分な複雑性が追加さ

れているように、複雑な余分なファイバを追加しなけれ
ばならない。更に、この81eeOrの刊行物に述べら
れているスイッチは、機械的に停止することが必要なた
め、使用中に磨耗が生じ易く、それが光部品にスイッチ
ング直後のその方向の望ましくないビームのジッタのよ
うな振動を与える原因となる。
スイッチング装置、更に一般的には電磁信号スイッチン
グ装置を提供することを目的としている。

第2領域から第1領域へ、それ自身と平行に動くことが

光検出器を局所ステーションに設けて、それを第3ファ
イバ部分に入ってそこから伝搬した後の光ビームを受け

た光ビームはLANループからせきとめられ、第4ポー
トに到着した第2光ビームは局所光源からせきとめられ
、さらに局所ステーションの偏向要素が第1領域(オフ
・ライン)にある時、第3と第4ファイバ部分をオフセ
ットすることにより、望ましい僅かな有効光強度で、局
所ステーションにおける自己テスト操作を特徴とする特
徴を備えた光スイツチング装置を上述のようにLANの
中で用いることができる。

の場合(第1図及び第2図)において、スイッチング装

Claims (19)
- (1)(a)平らな偏向面を有する放射偏向要素(M、
RS)と、 (b)平らな偏向面が、第1領域から 第2領域へ、及び第2領域から第1領域へ、それ自身と
平行に動くことができるように、偏向要素を動かすため
の駆動手段(G)と、 (c)偏向要素が第1領域にある時、 第1ポート(P1)のスイッチング部に到着した放射信
号ビームが、第2位置の箇所を通過して伝搬してポート
(P2)に入り、さらに偏向要素が駆動手段によって動
かされて第2領域にある時、第1ポート(P1)に到着
した信号ビームが、偏向要素の平らな表面により第3ポ
ート(P3)へ偏向されるように、夫々が配置されてい
る第1、第2、第3放射ポート(P1、P2、P3)と
、(d)平らな主表面(PS)と、その 主表面に、第1、第2、及び第3ポートの夫々の位置を
決める第1、第2、第3導波管を配置する溝(FR1、
FR2、FR3)と、その主表面に、第1、第2、及び
第3ポートの位置と関係して偏向要素を位置決めする一
対の偏向要素位置決め用溝(SBR1、SBR2)を有
する基板(S)と、を備えたことを特徴とする電磁放射
スイッチング装置。 - (2)電磁放射は、放射信号ビームが第1光ビームであ
る光放射であり、第1、第2、及び第3導波管配置用溝
は、細長いファイバ配置用溝であり、第1、第2、第3
ポートは夫々、第1、第2、第3の細長い溝に入れられ
た第1、第2、第3光ファイバ部分を有しこれらの第1
、第2、第3の細長い溝が、第1ファイバ部分から第2
、第3ファイバ部分へ放射される第1光ビームの伝搬の
ため、相互に方向づけられた第1、第2、第3の軸を夫
々有することを特徴とする請求項1記載の装置。 - (3)基板中の第4導波管用の細長い溝に入れられた第
4ファイバ部分を含む第4光ポートを有し、この細長い
第4導波管が、偏向要素が第1領域に位置する時、局所
光源から供給されて第4ポートに到達した第2光信号ビ
ームが、第2領域を通過して第3ポートに入り、さらに
偏向要素が第2領域に動かされた時、第2光ビームが偏
向要素で反射されて第2ポートに入るように配置された
軸を有することを特徴とする請求項2記載の装置。 - (4)第3ファイバ部分に入りそこから伝搬した後の光
ビームを受けるために配置された光検出器を有し、偏向
要素が第1距離だけ離れた前面と後面を有する鏡であり
、第4の溝が第3の溝に対してオフセット距離を持って
配置され、それによって、鏡が第1領域に位置する時、
第4ポートに到達した第2光ビームの断面の一部のみが
第3ファイバ部分に入り、鏡が第2領域に動かされた時
、第4ポートに到達した光ビームの断面のほぼ全てが第
2ファイバ部分に入ることを特徴とする請求項3記載の
装置。 - (5)第1、第2、第3、第4ポート夫々に関して配置
された夫々の箇所に設けられた第1、第2、第3、及び
第4光レンズ夫々を有する基板の表面に、第5、第6、
第7、第8の溝を更に有することを特徴とする請求項4
記載の装置。 - (6)第1、第2、第3、第4ポート夫々に関して配置
された夫々の箇所に設けられた第1、第2、第3、第4
光レンズ夫々を有する基板の表面に、第5、第6、第7
、第8の溝を更に有することを特徴とする請求項3記載
の装置。 - (7)第1、第2、及び第3ポート夫々に関して配置さ
れた夫々の箇所に設けられた第1、第2、第3光レンズ
夫々を有する基板の表面に、第4、第5、第6の溝を更
に有することを特徴とする請求項3記載の装置。 - (8)電磁放射は光放射であり、かつ、第1、第2、第
3ポート夫々に関して配置された夫々の箇所に設けられ
た第1、第2、第3光レンズ夫々を有する基板の表面に
、第4、第5、第6の溝を更に有することを特徴とする
請求項2記載の装置。 - (9)第1、第2、第3ポート夫々に関して配置された
夫々の箇所に設けられた第1、第2、第3光レンズ夫々
を有する基板の表面に、第4、第5、第6の溝を更に有
することを特徴とする請求項1記載の装置。 - (10)鏡を駆動するための手段は、鏡前面に平行であ
る第1方向に運動を行わせ、その第1方向は、光ビーム
によって決められる面と直角であることを特徴とする請
求項1記載の装置。 - (11)請求項1に記載の装置を有し、更に(a)光放
射を利用するための利用手段と、(b)第2ポートに入
る光ビームを集め、 それを利用手段へ伝搬するための光伝送手段と、を有す
ることを特徴とする通信システム。 - (12)請求項2に記載のスイッチング装置を有し、更
に、第2ファイバ部分から放射される光放射をそこを伝
搬後に利用するための利用手段を有することを特徴とす
る通信システム。 - (13)請求項4に記載のスイッチング装置を有し、更
に、第2ファイバ部分から放射される光信号をそこを伝
搬後に利用するための利用手段を有することを特徴とす
る通信システム。 - (14)偏向要素が鏡であることを特徴とする請求項1
1記載のシステム。 - (15)偏向要素が鏡であることを特徴とする請求項1
2記載のシステム。 - (16)偏向要素が鏡であることを特徴とする請求項1
3記載のシステム。 - (17)偏向要素が平行板屈折要素であることを特徴と
