Claims (17)
- マルチビーム回折格子ベースのバックライトであって、
光源からの光を導波するライトガイドと、
前記ライトガイドの表面のマルチビーム回折格子であって、前記マルチビーム回折格子は、前記導波光の一部分を回折して複数の光ビームとして前記ライトガイドの外へ出し、前記複数のうちの1つの光ビームは、前記複数のうちの他の光ビームの方向とは異なる方向を有する、マルチビーム回折格子と、
を備えるバックライト。 - 前記マルチビーム回折格子は、チャープ回折格子を備える、請求項1に記載のマルチビーム回折格子ベースのバックライト。
- 前記チャープ回折格子は、線形チャープ回折格子である、請求項2に記載のマルチビーム回折格子ベースのバックライト。
- 前記マルチビーム回折格子は、互いに離間された曲線状の複数の溝および曲線状の複数の隆線のうちの1つを備える、請求項1に記載のマルチビーム回折格子ベースのバックライト。
- 前記ライトガイドの縁部に前記光源を更に備え、前記導波光は、カップリングされて前記ライトガイドの前記縁部内へ入る前記光源からの光である、請求項1に記載のマルチビーム回折格子ベースのバックライト。
- 前記ライトガイドおよび前記マルチビーム回折格子は、前記光が前記ライトガイド内で導波される方向と直交する方向に実質的に透明である、請求項1に記載のマルチビーム回折格子ベースのバックライト。
- 請求項1に記載のマルチビーム回折格子ベースのバックライトを備える電子ディスプレイであって、前記マルチビーム回折格子により回折して外へ出される前記導波光の前記部分は、前記電子ディスプレイの画素に対応する光である、電子ディスプレイ。
- 前記複数の光ビームのうちの前記1つの光ビームを変調するライトバルブを更に備え、前記マルチビーム回折格子は、前記ライトバルブと前記ライトガイド表面との間にある、請求項7に記載の電子ディスプレイ。
- 3次元(3D)電子ディスプレイであって、
光源からの光を導波する平板ライトガイドと、
前記平板ライトガイドから前記導波光の一部分を対応する複数の互いに異なる方向を有する複数の異なる方向に方向付けられた光ビームとして回折して外へ出すマルチビーム回折格子と、
前記異なる方向に向けられた複数の光ビームを変調するライトバルブアレイと、
を備え、
前記変調された、異なる方向に向けられた複数の光ビームは、前記電子ディスプレイの画素であり、前記変調された、異なる方向に向けられた光ビームのうちの異なる光ビームは、前記3D電子ディスプレイにより提供される異なる視像に対応する、3次元(3D)電子ディスプレイ。 - 前記マルチビーム回折格子は、曲線状の回折特徴部を有するチャープ回折格子を備える、請求項9に記載の3D電子ディスプレイ。
- 前記ライトバルブアレイは、複数の液晶ライトバルブを備える、請求項9に記載の3D電子ディスプレイ。
- 前記ライトバルブアレイは、約100マイクロメートルより大きい厚さを有する、請求項11に記載の3D電子ディスプレイ。
- 前記光源を更に備え、前記導波光は、カップリングされて前記平板ライトガイドの縁部内へ入る前記光源からの光である、請求項9に記載の3D電子ディスプレイ。
- 電子ディスプレイの動作の方法であって、
ライトガイド内で光を導波することと、
前記ライトガイドの表面のマルチビーム回折格子を用いて前記導波光の一部分を回折により外へ出して、複数の光ビームを生成することと
を含み、
前記光ビームは、前記ライトガイド表面から離れるように伝播し、
前記複数のうちの1つの光ビームは、前記複数のうちの他の光ビームとは異なる方向を有する、方法。 - 前記複数の光ビームを、対応する複数のライトバルブを用いて変調することを更に含み、前記変調された複数の光ビームは、3次元(3D)電子ディスプレイの複数の画素を形成する、請求項14に記載の電子ディスプレイの動作の方法。
- 前記マルチビーム回折格子は、曲線状の複数の回折特徴部を有するチャープ回折格子を備え、前記曲線状の複数の回折特徴部の曲線は、前記複数のうちの前記1つの光ビームの前記異なる方向を定める、請求項1に記載のマルチビーム回折格子ベースのバックライト。
- 前記複数のうちの複数の光ビームは、異なる方向を有し、前記異なる方向は、3D電子ディスプレイの異なる複数の視界に対応する複数の画素を形成するように設定される、請求項1に記載のマルチビーム回折格子ベースのバックライト。
